there's something about a foam guitar that makes people want to stick their toungues out

today's the day! launch day that is. going to be a crazy 24 hours at work. prepping to stay there most of the night and be back early tomorrow morning. whether that actually shakes out remains to be seen.

i'm going in to the office late this morning b/c of tonight's schedule and the 'game on at 8 pm' concept, so i slept in a bit and went to an 8:30 cardio sculpt gym class. or tried to. didn't eat anything beforehand and had to sit down half-way through b/c i thought i was going to pass out. in the words of my mom, when you're dumb, you gotta pay.

a few gym observations:

- what type of woman can go to 8:30 gym classes on a regular basis? housewives? students? no one who works in an office though.
- all my gym shirts are covered in mascara from wiping my eyes with them. hmmm.

had people over on saturday night for the first party we've hosted in a long time. in the words of the 'bad girl's guide to the party life', here's how you can tell your party was a success:

1. your downstairs neighbors (who are 30) come up the fire escape to borrow a pong ball
2. the apt across the roof spends most of the night staring longingly at your terrace (wasn't sure on the ettiquette here. should we have held up a sign with our address?)
3. vin's cousin had to fill both me and vin in on exactly what went down later in the night
4. vin woke up in the east village
5. hopper passed out on our chaise lounge chairs
6. people were here playing beruit while i was passed out and vin was at the bar
7. someone took my camera by accident and it was returned in short order which was excellent b/c there's an amazing series of photos with the foam guitar we got from the today show 'no doubt' concert. photo montages is something i like to do with the old coworkers - we pick a prop (salt shaker, wad of cash, foam guitar) and everyone has to pose with it. usually makes for an entertaining time. in this case, it seems that something about guitars, even fake foam ones, makes people want to stick their toungues out, as the photographic evidence suggests.

had sangria - inger's 'elixir of love' recipe - and pimm's cups, as well as john daly's (arnold palmer with sweet tea vodka), sweet tea vodka (duh) and vodka lemonade to drink. mixing and mingling and hell hole were played and a good time was had by all. we really should do it more often.

in usual suspect news - ceppos took the gmat on saturday - she is done done done and glad about it. diana has a new job out in cali and she and the boy just moved into san fran. now it is easier than ever to go visit her! diede, celeste and i are planning to head to the cape the last weekend in august for a big sis/little sis bonding weekend. very excited about that.

more beach news. i'm heading out to the hamptons this weekend to will's house party in east hampton. this is tricky for 2 reasons:
1. i've never been. looking forward to seeing what it's like though.
2. boys are notoriously bad at details and planning, while me and my type a personality need to know the scoop (with the exception of linsalata who has already secured the party bus for the labor day jb show). witness:

will: are you coming aug 1-2?
me: sure
me: what are the details
will: come, stay at my house
be merry
thats about it
there will be a lot of other people there
20+ at the house, maybe
me: right - but tell me when you're going out there, how you're supposed to get there, etc
will: oh, ha, I see
you can get out there either on the jitney or LIRR
both are easy and let off near my house
me: will need some more details but at a high level - okay
will: I can provide any details
me: do i need to bring anything?
will: like what?
me: sleeping bag?
will: sure!
good thinking!
me: well interestingly i don't have a sleeping bag
so i'll see what i can do
will: oh, haha
thats OK
we have blankets and stuff
here is what will has not told me: where his house is in the hamptons, whether this is a full weekend affair, who else is coming and what type of attire i need to bring.

ah well. i like to live dangerously. and pretty sure as long as i bring a bathing suit i can manage.

perhaps there will be more delirious posting late night tonight. but if not, catch you on the flip side of launch kiddos.

time capsule: intro

so, i would like to introduce a new feature on the blog i'm going to creatively call 'time capsule'. was reading a blog that reviewed a book called 'no one cares what you had for lunch' - ie it had suggestions for how to get creative and interesting on your blog. now, everyone i know thinks this blog is fascinating, but i still checked out the suggestions, one of which was to go back to an old diary and post an entry.

i keep a journal in addition to this blog - it holds the really emotional stuff so i don't bore you with it here. however, upon re-reading, i'm still not ready to post my most intimate feelings about things that most of you already know about.

that being said, everyone reading this knows how integral gtalk is to my life and i realized that i have been on gmail and been using gtalk ever since it was launchd (self-call) and thanks to the archiving feature, i have tons of content waiting to be mined. some of it will be used in the book i write chronicling post-college life through gtalk, but i thought i would do a post every now and then where i go back to +/- 3 days of the date ,1, 2, 3 years ago and post interesting or funny tidbits from emails or gtalks, edited for content and clarity. just another snapshot of life.

without futher ado:

gtalk convo with diana 4.18.06

lyon: from ally and charlo (who went to cornell and yale respectively and are forced to be around us d people at all times)
12:14 PM we made a platonic web of sketch on sun b/c we know EVERYONE in such weird ways
so charlo says on ally's fb wall:
yes the green paper social matrix is crazy sweet.

what have we learned from this exercise?

a) we know everyone in new york
b) those people we dont know went to dartmouth and we will eventually meet them "unexpectedly" at a bar
c) upon meeing said "D People", everyone will discuss how ridiculous it is that people dont spend their entire adult lives in new york playing pong WITH PADDLES in basements.

and ally replies on charlo's fb wall:
so true. and:
d) even when we do get to know said "D people" they will be gone every other weekend when the hanover umbilical cord snaps them back to rural new hampshire, so close friendships are futile
e) it is only a matter of time before we, too, start referring to people, animals, and select inanimate objects as "friend"
f) and that scares me.
hmmm - doesn't seem like much has changed. ;-P

spotlight on: laurak

was chatting with laurak on gtalk last week. she was home in chicago from key west for her sister's pre-wedding festivities and very glad to have the internet:

laurak: it is nice to have internet

we dont have it near the boat
have to go sit in the front yard of the key west courthouse
which is possibly haunted
laurak: as i learned the other night from the ghost tour that came through while i was sitting there
me: oh my
10:12 AM that's hilarious
laurak: it was
apparently i've never been there at the right time of night before
10:13 AM me: i guess not
what did the ghost tour say about you being there on the web
10:14 AM laurak: he tried to ignore me
the internet doesn't set the haunted mood
doesn't fit in with tales from days of yore
me: lolit's true
10:15 AM were you by chance pirating internet?
b/c that might be a little bit more along the lines
10:16 AM laurak: i was
so i guess that fits in
shockingly
the yard of the courthouse is not where they intend for people to use the internet
10:17 AM just entrepreneurial folks like myself
and other boat kids who dont want to pay for it
10:19 AM me: lol
hilarious
10:26 AM laurak: i can't even tell you how often i think to myself these days
if my friends could see what i am doing right now
they would be laughing really hard
10:27 AM like i discovered this pair of bright pink rain boots that someone left on the boat
that i have taken to wearing around
me: that's pretty awesome too
i 100% approve
10:28 AM laurak: thanks
i initially went for a whale print pair
but they were too small

miss you kid. the good news is her program wraps up at the end of march and i believe the northeast is among her plans. hot dog!

it's the most wonderful time of the year

vin's thoughts on whether we should have a holiday gathering next saturday, along with quite literally, five other events that are already being held:

vin: maybe we have a post holiday gathering? i'd rather drink other people's alcohol if we have the option? is that wrong?

three chances to answer that one - and the first two don't count. ;-P

i heart gtalk

banner day in gtalk:

skips: are you saying it in the doodad voice and I just can't tell
because it's gchat?

linsalata: even i would go to an obama rally if jimmy buffett were
performing there for free

twitter

as most of you know, i LOVE google talk. love that i can shoot off a message to people across the country in a second (i call this 'having people at my fingertips'), that i have a whole range of people to informally poll/distract me/etc. at any given time, i need my gtalk up and signed in on, and when i'm not in front of a computer, i'm signed in on blackberry.

however, we use gtalk at work, which is both good and bad. good b/c i can talk on it all day long. bad because it means all my coworkers are on my buddy list and i can't always make my status messages what i would like (ie - hate work right now, hungover as hell, you get the idea).

so i joined twitter - partly b/c i work in digital media and are maybe supposed to know about these things, but also partly as an outlet. i could say what i really wanted to say on twitter.

except now all these people from work are joining twitter, and upon the search of their contacts to see who is on twitter, i come up and they blindly decide to follow me b/c no one else we know is on twitter. (we being people our age, people that are not robert scoble) so it sort of defeats the purpose of getting around managing my corporate persona if all my coworkers are following me on twitter. yeah.

of concerts and eiffel 65

some pretty solid gtalk convos today:

christine: i will say that if i lived on the cape i would definitely visit coachlight carpets rather than those other guys for flooring

ceppos: love that we're hypothesizing about the rise and fall of eiffel 65

christine: we rarely run out of options

christine: we should probably make a poster of things that might happen at a concert that may or may not be replicated out in the real world

a house is a house for me

good news folks - we found an apt! it only took one month of stress and torture. it's on 77th and 3rd - we've moving back to the upper east side. we have to put up a wall, and we are super broke - but it has an amazing terrace and a dishwasher! (we're simple girls at heart). we move march 1 - cannot believe we actually managed to pull this off. am still in shock. and the best news is all our new neighbors: cody, celeste, charlo, dax and aida all live stone's throw away. yay!

valentine's day was celebrated with copious amounts of beer at desmonds. the highlight of the evening was when we discovered the dead mouse lying under the chair. at first we thought it was alive - given our drunken state - but as it hadn't moved in over 30 seconds, despite the fact the girls at the table were squealing and shrieking - we should have guessed it was dead. the best part is that apparently it had been there for over an hour before anyone realized it. yeah.

great gtalk convo with aida about the events that went down last night:

aida: he said 'i like you too' but not in like a romantic way
in like a 'i like turtles' way
me: crap
aida: or 'i like cereal'
aida: or 'i like mac and cheese'
ouch!

valentine's day also meant some fabulous links got sent. bittersweets. the website is despair.com. love it. also, laurak came up with several clutch links celebrating 'palentine's day' and 'barack obama left when he heard you weren't coming.' The linking to this website is in no way political, i just think the statements are hilarious and applicable to other areas of life.

am low country bound - off to charleston, sc tomorrow morning for an extended president's day vacation. my grandparents on my mom's side live there - that's actually where my parents met and got married. my mom will be there too. haven't been down to visit in like 10 years. looking forward to it. unfort, these grandparents aren't totally with the times, and don't have email or internet - so it's radio silence on the blogging bit for a few days. you can still get me on gchat of course and there will be stories to tell on the flip side.

enjoy the long wknd folks!
