weekend update

sometimes you loyal kmart blog readers/shoppers are so DEMANDING. reminds me bridget jones (of course):
suddenly hate the guests. have had to slave for two days and now they will all swarm in, demanding (blog updates) like cuckoos.
- bridget jones's diary

j/k j/k. i know without the readers this blog would be nothing but my ramblings and since you have all been so kind as to humor me i should not refer to you as cuckoos.

was a stellar wknd all around if i do say so myself. power hour was an immense success - had a great turnout including, stein, megh, steger, charlo, vinithia, several of vin's friends, two of my coworkers (bad for the corporate persona) and my roomate who appeared at the eleventh hour to find us all drunk and beer cans all over the floor and ended up coming out and making out. now that i would put on par with finding a black lace bra in the freezer in terms of measuring party success. another way to tell the party was a success is we ended up with more beer than we started with when the goal was to drink all the beer left over from our open/housewarming party. this is either fabulous or we're lame. unclear.

with a nod to tradition - here are the toasts from friday night's power hour:

1. old friends and new
2. ME (forget who this was. brendan maybe?)
3. being able to play college drinking games in the real world
4. having more beer than we know what to do with
5. no responsibility (stein is done with MBA year 1 - congrats!)
6. 54 more minutes of drinking
7. zeb being almost 10 years older than the rest of us (but he still came out and rocked. he gets points)
8. hammered
9. macrobreweries (were any of the beers we were drinking of this nature?)
10. milano cookies, chessmen and my personal favorite - chewy oatmeal raisin (this was megh. at last i know who actually eats those oatmeal raisin cookies)
11. binge drinking
12. awk moments at the urinal with my boss - "i mean i couldn't even go" (notice how far in we were)
13. philly phillys beating the ny mets (oh that was a bold move. then again, i don't think any of us actually were from ny so i guess it's okay)
14. knowing this many people as crazy as you are
15. kcarm - who i have yet to see at one of these things (stein's toast. but i have yet to see him also. still, i keep inviting him. hmmm)
16. to the acronym FUBAR and what we're all going to be at the end of the night (i was not familiar with said acronym so someone explained it to me, but unfortunately i was fubar and can't remember it)
17. here's to the most uncomfortable position i have ever been in my life (slight exageration)
18. tom and his new haircut
19. vh1 - (charlo was at the gym)
20. late arrivals
21. mulley, who would enjoy this if she were here (you bet she would)
22. nobody drink the beer, the beer has gone bad
23. to being modestly to severly out of shape
24. luke skywalker and his fellow jedi knights
25. to not having a fucking clue what i want to be when i grow up
26. happy happy
27. my first power hour! (vin's friend. not mine. lord knows that cherry was popped the last day of freshman spring with shuter and the hockey girls)
28. to having a nice buzz going on and being kept away from children and small animals
29. to having a buzz and keeping away from everyone
30. killing all the beer
31. unlimited text message plans
32. flash dance
33. constant berating
34. educated pirates b/c they are the scariest!
35. happiness happiness (we are the love generation)
36. global alpha (no clue what this means)
37. zach morris and the cast of saved by the bell who taught me to be a person
38. ooc impromtu dance parties
39. world domination
40. vins love of shania twain (she vehemently denies this slanderous libel)
41. realizing my last toast was sketchy and you're all beautiful people (someone invite him back to hang out)
42. thank you to our lord jesus christ that george bush is in office (uh oh. there's a line. adn he went right up to it and then fell across it)
43. carrie underwood - my favorite country singer
44. hugh grant who threw beans at a reporter (this was news to me)
45. beer garden
46. can't read it. there's a g and a the but that's all i can make out
47. party fouls
48. marriages with expiration dates (i wasn't aware any of us were considering marriage)
49. to zeb - he's funny
50. keep on trucking
51. teasing something as an excuse ala lilly allen (huh?)
52. to the clap - steger also arrived here
53. growing pains theme song
54. david hasslehoff and eternal youth
55. boobs (this one never gets old)
56. to all my new friends on fb
57. laffy taffy maybe?
58. keith richards snorting his father's ashes (whoa. this power hour had a decided dark side)
59. ?
60. snap your fingers (what's happening, what's up got patrone in my cup)

here ends the power hour. steger ate more waffles ala our last event. vinithia had strawberry shortcake and peanut butter. then we rounded everyone up and went to brass monkey for awhile - which we later ditched for diner crab and artichoke dip and burgers. we were all passing out at the table. this diner had a dj. only in nyc.

sat i lazed about and then went for a vip tour of 30 rock. we sat on conan o'brien's couch and stood on the star that he uses to mark where he comes out to do his opening monologue. if anyone wants tix - i know the girl who books them. we also got to see the snl live set - i stood where they do the wknd update and under the 'to train's' grand centeral sign where the musicians perform. apparently they change the set to look like a nyc insitution every few seasons. def did not know that. don't ask me for tix to this show - they're impossible to get -though being in sales you never know . . . also hoping to go to a snl after after show in may which i think would be a blast!

sat night went to murray hill to meet the duke folk that vin knows - had an impromptu dance party with all the great music - was SO much fun to dance. i miss that. today was a lovely day in nyc - didn't go out until around 7 though for a run along the hudson. the flowers were blooming, the sun was setting over nj and i could see the statue of liberty when i got far enough down. that never fails to amaze me. it is nyc. and i can see that, the empire state building and the chrysler building from v. near my apt. so cool.

in good news to report, BOXA is coming to nyc! for a v. short trip - much of which will be taken up by green key trip to htown - but i am so excited she is coming i cannot wait. she'll be arriving on friday night - so perhaps some meeting up for drinks is in order. is about 3 weeks away - so we have some time to plan - but this has made my month for sure.

another sunday night and time to get back in the work saddle as april draws to a close. great month all around.

tricky

my coworker invited me to participate in their 'beer olympics' coming up in june. sort of like an apt crawl/testing your ability to consume lots amounts of alcohol over a period of time. of course i'm a shoo in (self call) right?

alas no. see below for the day's events:

bracket style head to head: These games will include:

1. Beirut
2.Quarters
3.Flip Cup

1. - i've played beruit a grand total of 5 times if i'm lucky. and that's counting all the times i threw for serve in pong.

2. never played. the only quarters i'm concerned about are the ones that go in the laundry machine.

3. when the camp next to us at jimmy buffett last summer was playing flip cup we decided we'd be neighborly and join in. i got in as the anchor on one side and poured my beer. turns out in flip cup you're only supposed to pour a little bit in the cup, not fill the cup ala a boat race. i still kicked my opponents ass.

i would like to participate in said event in the interest of meeting new people. building camraderie. and self calling like whoa - but i'm not sure if i can. this event would be like christmas break in college when you went and hung out with your friends from high school and sat around morosely throwing back beers at irresponsible binge drinking pace while your former friends demonstrated how 'cool' they'd become in college by becoming president at asshole 10 times in a row. give me a pong table PLEASE.

it is also at these types of events with non-d people that you realize just how fucked up d is about drinking. it is not normal for my immediate response to the email invitation to ask 'can you boot and rally repeatedly or are we limited to one boot ala golden keg?'. i think you just kind of have to stand apart, shake your head, and say, 'if only you kids could experience a green key. or a monday night on campus.' mondays are the new thursdays which are the new wednesdays. what the hell - it's time to drink again every other night . . .

am i alone in spotting the inconsistncy here???

a mouse in the house

the title pretty much says it all. this is a cute mouse, not an ugly rat, but still a mouse that causes us to scream and jump, so i purchased some poison yesterday and we have 'trapped' the mouse in my closet and stuffed the bottom closed with the wall street journals that we do not read and just accumulate outside our door. hey, if we're not using them to get rich we might as well use them to kill mice.

happy wed to all. boxa gets boones for brains - subject to laurak's approval of course, for winning some sort of scholarship. unclear exactly what, why or how much as was distracted by conversation about secretaries day - but good work. get drunk.

when we were little we use to give my mom hell for not giving us what we considered 'good lunches'. namely, all the kids had better food to eat than we did. we wanted chips, capri suns and twinkies. today i have to apologize to my mom, as since joining the real world have had actual thoughts of, 'if i buy these carrots i can bring some to eat at work' and 'i'll make extra pasta for dinner and bring it for lunch tomorrow'. in the interest of saving money have become exactly what we gave my mom tons of grief for. sorry mom. let's NOT ignore our mother's well-meant advice.

walking home today i slipped on the curb and fell in a puddle. as in, if a bus were coming i would have been hit. i went limp as this happened as is usually the best way to avoid injuring yourself when falling on ice or in a bball game. maybe not the best plan for puddles, as now need to dry clean pants and have scraped up knee. as well. is clear am total klutz anyway - have accepted it a long time ago. onwards and upwards.

speaking of walking, i live diagonal from work, so i generally take the train up the west side and walk across at midtown to get to work. in the course of this walk that i do just about every day i encounter TONS of people smoking. like it is pretty much a non-stop smoking trail from east to west side. i imagine this is because people are having a last cigarette before going into work/taking a break from work and going outside to smoke, and there are a higher concentration of them in midtown b/c there are more offices. still, i find it a disgusting habit. on the plus side, the midtown association of manhattan has planted lots of daffodils (my favorite flower) and hyacinths around the area - so it's a v. pleasant, enjoyable walk on the whole, and sometimes the scent of hyacinths masks the smell of smoke. just something i've noticed.

art gallery fundraiser volunteering was interesting. it was so far beyond the realm of what i do on a day to day nyc basis that it was cool. learned it was in fact possible to wear whatever the hell you want - there were people in evening gowns and people in overalls. i saw liv tyler - she looks exactly like she does in the movies and seemed v. cool and down to earth. the kind of person that when you see them you're kind of in awe for awhile and you're like - i want you to be my friend b/c you're THAT cool. i feel that way about my gym class instructor as well. some of this art - which was not fabulous in my opinion - was sold for obscene amounts of money. like 40k. i was standing there during the auction simultaneously thinking 'damn. that's a year of d. and they want me to PICK that up and package it for travel? are they insane?' while also pondering what it would be like to have so much money you could while away 40k without blinking and also imagining where in their home these people would put these pieces of art. 'no no darling - the picasso-style picture of the mouth would go MUCH better over our bed!'. the rich really are different.

power hour at the apt on fri night. looking forward to it. nothing like returning to the days of college drinking. soph summer what????

call it what you wanna call it

the only problem with living near the gayest avenue in nyc is that 95 percent of the hot guys you pass on the sidewalk are more than likely off limits. on the other hand, the soccer guys from chelsea piers are probably good to go . . .

what a difference a week makes

last week i could barely see while driving down 91 and this week i'm sweating walking around in short sleeve shirt and capris in the 75-degree sunshine. laurak, up in htown this wknd, was talking about calling me from the beach. snow/tanning - who knew?

been thinking a lot about weddings lately. no - not like that. as i was discussing with my coworker - my cube's feng shui is in need of some help - particularly my relationship corner - which is clearly extremely lacking in red and pink given the total lack of even 'unspecial' people in my life right now - but that is a topic for another post.

reflecting is more like it - and with good reason. three of the guys in my office are getting married in the next 6 mths - wedding details are a hot topic of conversation. i already know 3 different websites for bridesmaids gowns and can discuss tuxes versus bowties with the best of them.

one of my roomates is also from the south - which means our refridgerator is covered in wedding invitations. it's like a weekly ritual - allison gets a wedding invite/bachlorette party invite/rehersal dinner invite. on the plus side, i have some serious thoughts about stationary and wording.

one of my oldest friends from home just got engaged to the guy she dated in high school. i am not sure what to think about this except to feel damn glad it's not me.

and my parents are celebrating their 25 wedding anniversary this week. for those of you that helped debate what us kids should give them - they loved the flowers and the sunset sail. my mom cried. all of this has me feeling very warm and cozy about families and love. but to be honest, i don't have the first idea what to do to make a marriage last that long. maybe it's a leap and the net will appear thing.

i remember huyett telling me at some point that three years out of college there are a wave of weddings. and then three years after that, another wave of all the people that met at the first wave. boxa wants someone to get married so we can have a big party. i'm down with that plan but what does it mean after the party is over? i guess if i'm a guest - nothing. ;-)

went out last night to the maritime hotel with vin - a great party - will be even better when they open up the roof deck in mid-may. lots of old school hip hop - great stuff for a basement mix. everything's in bloom in nyc - and everyone's out and about. walked to the pain today for a latte and a crossant and ate it in the sunshine. reminded me of paris. volunteering at a art gallery fundraising event tomorrow from 5-10 - supposed to be celeb centeral so will report back.

in just spring

hi friends. sorry for the lack of updates. i've been busy living - as usual - but hopefully can get down to it now.

currently, my office is making fun of me for not knowing that 'the anna nicole smith show existed' (obvi back in the day before she died). they claim that b/c i did not know about this show that aired in '03 i am not committed to my industry (media). i would like to
point out, in my defense which no one will get b/c they didn't go to d, i was a soph in college - fully immersed in the phenomenon that is the htown bubble/lack of cable tv. it is not my fault i was not up on the latest and greatest shows. but i digress.

last wknd i went to htown. if i didn't have to speak at cody's panhell lunch i don't think i would have gone b/c the weather driving up and back was TERRIBLE. like treacherous. that being said, i am glad i went.

it was the sd open party on friday night - i left work at 6:15, got the rental car at 7:30 and arrived on campus at midnight. ten minutes later i had a pong game, courtesy of ceppos - i have to say i was v. impressed with her for that feat. she and i basically ran tables for
the rest of the night - danced to kelly clarkson with kevin (a v. athletic dance i might add) and drank keystone. it was awesome. around 4:30 i put on my pjs in celeste's room to go to bed. around 9:30 am i wake up and look around. i realize it's not my bedroom, but that
that's okay b/c i'm at school, not in chelsea. i go back to sleep. 20 minutes later i wake up again and realize that while it is okay that i am not in my own room b/c i am in htown, i am not in celeste's room either. turns out i had drunk-walked into my old room from soph summer
and spent the night with an '08. i have no recollection of this.

on that note i was feeling good for the panhell talk - the lunch was lovely - cody did a great job. catered by lou's with a DELICOUS strawberries and cream cake, flowers on the table, a sorority slide show - i got kind of teary-eyed. mrs. wright talked about the history of sororities at d - saying that the original founders of sororites at d were the icing on the cake of a system that allows us d women to 'have our cake and eat it to'. i talked about the sorority stereotype
in the real world and how i will argue against that stereotype given my experience in sd. i may post my speech here - there were many alums that were sorry they couldn't make it up, so that might be enjoyable to read. also, the more i thought about my speech and the points i
wanted to make the stronger i felt about how lucky i was to have been in sd and how different my life now would be if i hadn't.

an '84 kappa talked about some of the life lessons that she learned while an undergrad (she mentioned being prez was a bit like hearding cats in heat) that she applies to her daily life now - also an excellent speech. all around, a great thing to do and hopefully it will be an annual thing from now on. catch the d article, featuring me, here.

sat night went to milque and cookies at phi tau for the first time ever. there were seriously massive amounts of cookies (see pic). really preferred the milque over the cookies, but an impressive array. glad to have done it (finally). met my bro and his friend and headed
to sae to play harbour with linsalata and lingley. first time playing harbour at 10 pm instead of 10 am. celeste and i lost terribly, eventually 'team track '10s' - ie my bro and his friend' won - to our eternal chagrin.

more pong ensued - a trip to gdx - passing out etc. boner jamz all around. driving back sun was scary though. 91 didn't even look like it had been plowed - no one was drivign in the passing lane b/c there was no passing lane - it was covered with snow. when i hit the mass border
and it changed to rain things weren't much better - could hardly see 50 ft in front of me at times. there was so much water on the road i was reviewing hydroplaning techniques and every time a truck passed (there are a lot of trucks on 91) it kicked up water everywhere. and
then when i finally had caught the metro north, they announced the 125th street station was flooded and made us all get off at woodlawn and take the subway LOCAL from 233 street. took forever, but i was glad to have made it back. needless to say, despite the delightful time, i'm taking a break from traveling for a bit.

had a busy wk thus far - had dinner with taylor on tuesday night for a belated bday celebration - went to a great venuzuelan place on megh's recommendation - was delicious. wed went to the d club of nyc trustee panel - conversed with two of the trustees and took notes for the d
club of nyc's quarterly newsletter - look for my blurb in an upcoming issue. and last night i played tennis! hadn't played in 15 years - and it was taking awhile to come back - but super fun to play and i would def like to play more often - looking into that. boy my arm is sore. =)

so that's the word from me - looking forward to a relatively low-key wknd - it's supposed to be GORGEOUS in nyc - can't wait to do some spring cleaning and running outside.

a quick usual suspects update: diana is home in cali for the wknd and i am peer pressuring boxa to come visit nyc in may. i am assuring here she will not fail out of med school if she does.

three black skirts

"everyone is suddenly asking you, "are you in love?" and all you have to say is, "yes in fact i am in love - with snails and poems and pastry flour and a cloud shaped like mozart's ponytail and lyle lovett's voice and my nephew's big toe and the smell of fresh sheets and the squish of wet earth in the garden and the way i feel singing etta james on my bicycle on a spring day - but other than that, no, not really."

- three black skirts

peer pressure

hello blog readers.

this wknd i got drunk and went to htown. yes - you read that correctly. yes i am still going up on friday night. why? you might ask. the trush is i got drunk and am succeptible to peer pressure.

thurs night went over to will's apt to see him before he left town on friday. he's going to hike the pacific crest trail for 7 months - so it was the least i could do. while at his apt, after several glasses of red wine, he and crispin talked me into coming up to htown with them on friday afternoon. i was drunk, they're good at peer pressure, and it felt like the right thing to do.

so i busted out of work on friday around 3, they picked me up outside my office and we drove up. i hadn't been up in awhile - and boy was it cold - but it was nice to be in htown again.

i stayed with cody, sadly celeste and lingley were out of town, and we had a delightful time listening to music and catching up. i did feel old though - we went to a party at 9p and all i could think of was when will and co. lived there. it seemed strange that the house was the same (albeit much cleaner) but the people who were living there were not who i remembered. people kept guessing i was an '07 - i guess '05 doesn't come to mind really.

post 9p we went to psi u- they have the cutest puppies - a golden retriever and a yellow lab - hung out there, though the alkie from tails with kde was long gone - and then made our way over to sae for the irish themed dance party. there we encountered dan weinberg, dax and jacques - cody and i ended up playing late night pong with them - me and dax vs. cody and jacques - am happy to say we dominated. when we were finished it was 3 am or so - so cody and i walked back to sd, changed, and then went to foodstop for the most delicious chicken salad sandwich i've ever had and some mini eggs. did not have laurak to sing 'laurak is drunk' all the way, maybe next wknd - but that is what i was. at the end i had to tell cody that i couldn't see her and it was time to go to bed.

woke up early on sat and headed to the hop for breakfast before traversing main street (b/c they don't have gap in nyc). managed to find a winter hat that i had been looking for for a long time (to buy - not lost ala that mitten that fell in the snow soph winter and then was still there - though chewed up by the snowplow - when the snow melted months later. it was a v. long winter). post - practed playing pong with my bro in preparation for the invite pong tourney later that night. during this period i was def dating a leprachaun or something b/c boy was the luck coming down on my side, but we must have broken up somewhere btwn 2 and 9 b/c i couldn't hit a cup to save my life in the tourney which made my bro quite put out.

went and ran rip road - i couldn't run pine park b/c it was too soggy and wet from the snow. good run but boy did my calves hurt the next day. with the new ipod i really just want to run and run which is not conducive to the shape i'm in right now.

cody and i got dinner from mollys and got ready for the tourney. saw allie owens - looking hot with incredible abs that i myself would like to have - jason and i beat her and her partner and then lost to cody and kevin (i know - sad). in our defense, cody and kevin made it to the semis - so they were on fire or something. i took lots of awful pictures b/c kevin, while having upgraded from japanese tourist-style camera, still has a slow shutter on his digital camera. however those things are usually more fun when playing pizong.

stayed over at psi u on sat night - learned some interesting things over there - and then weinberg and i rented a car to drive back to nyc. on the way home i saw the d crew truck with the crew shells on the opposite side of 91. made me a little nostalgic for sure.

so good times all around - it was nice to say 'see you on friday' though. friday night is the sd open party - looking forward to that - and must write my speech! for sat.

just made a delicious black bean soup - here's the (easy) recipe for anyone looking to try out their culinary skills:>
Black Bean Soup
From

1 teaspoon olive oil
2 cups fresh salsa
2 15-ounce cans black beans, drained and rinsed
2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
1 16-ounce can refried black beans
1/2 cup sour cream (optional)
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, roughly chopped (optional)

Heat the oil in a saucepan or large pot over medium heat. Add the salsa and cook, stirring occasionally, for 4 minutes. Add the refried beans, black beans, and broth and bring to a simmer. Cook until warmed through, about 5 minutes. Ladle into bowls. Top with some of the remaining salsa and the sour cream and cilantro (if using).

here's the update as far as i know:

1. elise got into harvard school of public health and will be moving to boston this summer to attend. congrats to her for her scholoraly achievement, but more for making the smart decision to move closer to us. ;-)

2. ceppos was in texas for easter - a whirlwind, cold trip but she said she enjoyed it. hope to see her this wknd. huyett and laurak may also be in attendence.

3. cody will be living with overton and blair on the east side this coming year. v. excited.

4. coleman will also be in nyc this summer, along with ariel rodman. hooray for fun people coming to the city!

5. robin is enjoying her new job which allows her to work from home. she was just in florida for a month, but promises that she will meet up with me sometime next week to catch up.

6. lingley had an interview in boston for a job (not sure what) that she most likely has if she wants it but she hasn't decided if she does yet. she looked fabulous when i saw her and looking forward to catching up with her this coming wknd.

that's all i've heard from the grapevine. hope everyone had a good easter and wish we could have rocked it out when 'since you been gone' came on in the basement. as i like to say, since you all have been gone i've been dull and a lot better behaved. let's remedy that asap. ;-)

boones for brains

this week's boones for brains goes to ceppos, for getting a raise sometime last week. i forget when. but she is awesome and rocks. and is deserving of boones for her achievement.

sadly, she will have to either come down to nyc and i will buy her some boones, or come up to school next wknd and i will buy her some boones. tee hee hee. hi ceppos. go you!

ps - laurak and i are drunk (don't slam the door. guys, i mean it) but she endorses said bestowing of boones and says the buck stops with her so happy wednesday!

take a number boys

(but don't take this personally):

The World's Shortest Fairy Tale...

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl "Will you marry me?" The girl said, "NO!" And the girl lived happily ever after and went shopping, dancing, camping, drank martinis, always had a clean house, never had to cook, did whatever the hell she wanted, never argued, didn't get fat, traveled more, had many lovers, didn't save money, and had all the hot water to
herself. She went to the theatre, never watched sports, never wore fricken lacy lingerie that went up her ass, had high self esteem, never cried or yelled, felt and looked fabulous in sweat pants.

THE END

tee hee hee - found that quite amusing. =)

went out last night with the roomie to fat baby to hear her exbf's band play. usually i am quite skeptical of live music (unless of course it's jimmy buffett) but agreed to go for some reason - perhaps the desire to be friendly with the roomie - but it really wasn't difficult. it was fun to go out on a tuesday night, have some drinks, meet some new people, discuss whether college or pro players are more likely to throw games for money, etc. nice change.

i also went running along the hudson for the first time. i know pollypocket used to run the hudson river park a lot - but i hadn't just yet - mainly i think b/c the area to the west of 9th ave kind of freaks me. i know it's full of snooty art galleries over there, but right by us it's v. industrial and warehouses and stuff and i guess i've seen too many films where mobster knock people off and such - but running through it was not bad and i was surprised by how nice running next to the hudson was. view of nj. lit path. lots of other runners. certainly will do it more often in the future.

i mailed my taxes yesterday. a horrendous experience, but i did get to do it during work and stand in line at the post office with my hilarious coworker. we quoted moves for 45 minutes. quite enjoyable. i wish i felt more relieved that it was done (ahead of 95% of the population) but i am certain i will receive a bill in 3 - 6 weeks saying that despite my efforts to follow directions, etc. i owe them more money. will just wait for that instead of allowing myself to relax on it.

i have an appt for saturday at the aveda training salon. will let you know how it goes. tonight is the inaugeral meeting of the nyc parrothead club at moe's carribbean. quite excited about it.

talked to cody yesterday - she seems in v. good spirits - but it's prob b/c it's her senior spring and she's not taking classes. she and overton have found an apt on e 18th street for next year - which is good and close to me so i am glad to hear that. she is also the cfs intern (i know right?) and has asked me to speak at the 30 years of panhell celebration next saturday in htown. apparently i will follow mrs. wright and an '84 kappa. thus, will be going up to school next fri night if anyone from the ny area wants to come along. must begin thinking what to say. and i can't wait to run pine park. =)

currently listening to 'before he cheats' by carrie underwood. this is a new direction for her. and i like it.

send advil for the aches and pains and moving but succint and non-cheesy (tough i know) ways to sum up sigma delt (perhaps should just read over the blog now that i think about it) -P

music to live by

one of my favorite questions to ask at rush and/or other times when i meet people is 'if you could have one song play everytime you walked into a room what would it be'. think about it. my response is usually 'call on me' or 'peace of mind'

to that end, i've been having this convo with christine about our life soundtracks, and i thought i would post mine here. think about yours. and share your thoughts. (blogs are supposed to be interactive right?)

lyon's music to live by (in no particular order and with the lyrics i love):

1. coast of marseilles - jimmy buffett - 'you make it so hard to forget. i haven't stopped loving you yet'

2. peace of mind - boston - 'i understand about indecision but i don't care if i get behind. all i want is to help my peace of mind'

3. call on me - eric pryez - song you feel

4. invisible touch - genesis

5. if you could read my mind - gordon lightfoot 'if you could read my mind love what a tale my thoughts could tell'

6. changes in latitudes - jb - the entire song is amazing. the refrain was my high school senior quote

7. dancing in the dark - springsteen - 'this gun's for hire even if we're just dancing in the dark'

8. southern cross - c,s,n y - 'til someone strong comes along and makes me forget about loving you. and the southern cross'

9. sweet baby james - james taylor - 'maybe you can believe it if it helps you to sleep, but singing works just fine for me'

10 landfall - jb - 'what would they do if i made my landfall? just trying to make a little sense of it all'

11. your wildest dreams - moody blues 'i wonder where you are, i wonder if you think about me, once upon a time in your wildest dreams'

12. song for the asking - simon and garfunkel - 'here is my song for the asking, ask me and i will play all that love that i hold inside'

13. rock you like a hurricane - scorpions - 'here i am. rocked you like a hurricane. nuff said'

14. soak up the sun - sheryl crow - i've got my 45 on so i can rock on'

15. fidelity - regina spektor - 'i hear in my mind all of these voices. i hear in my mind all of these words. i hear in my mind all of this music and it breaks my heart, it breaks my heart'

16. big country - bela fleck - this is a song you feel. also reminds me of DOC trips

17. i hope you dance - lee ann womack - good advice all around

18. the long way around - dixie chicks 'i never seem to do it like anybody else, maybe someday someday i'll settle down but i've always found my way somehow by taking the long way around'

19. how forever feels - kenny chesney - 'i wanna know how forever feels'

20. wildflowers don't care where they grow - emmy lou harris - 'when a flower grows wild it can always survive. wildflowers don't care where they grow'

21. what i'm looking for - brendan benson 'i don't know what i'm looking for but i know that i don't want to look no more'

22. nobody does it better - carly simon - the way that you hold me, whenever you hold me, there's some kind of magic inside you that keeps me from running, but just keep it coming, how'd you learn to do the things you do?

23. go your own way - fleetwood mac - 'loving you isn't the right thing to do. how can I ever change things that I feel. if I could maybe i'd give you my world how can i when you wont take it from me'

24. say you will - fleetwood mac - 'something in you brought out something in me that i've never been since. that part of me that was only for you that kind of romance'

25. life for rent - dido 'if my life is for rent and i don't learn to buy well i deserve nothing more than i get b/c nothing i have is truly mine'

26. last mango in paris - jimmy buffett - 'i ate the last mango in paris, i took the last plane out of saigon. i took the first fast boat to china and jimmy there's still so much to be done'

27. she's always a woman - billy joel - 'she is frequently kind and she's suddenly cruel. she can do as she pleases, she's nobody's fool. but she can't be convicted, she's earned her degree. and the most she will do is throw shadows at you, but she's always a woman to me'

28. where the streets have no name - u2 'and when i go there, i go there with you
t's all i can do'

29. stand back - stevie nicks - for all the 'stand backs' in the middle of the song. and for the 10k mix that we made with this song on it at the half way point

30. romeo and juliet - dire straits 'julie, i'd do the stars with you anytime'

and on that note, we cue the music
