was voted mvp of last night's office party. i don't even want to know what i did to deserve this dubious honor.
although, it will be great for advertising our 'bringing the rage' company
oh man. if we weren't all crazy we just would go insane ;-P

less than ideal
this blog is becoming something of a stream of consciousness. somehow i don't think my devoted readers mind.
am fairly certain i asked my crush out at our company party last night. then again, i don't remember how i got home, so i'm not entirely sure, but i think the conversation went like this:
me: hey yo - do you want to hang out sometime?
boy: sure
me: oh cool b/c i really like you
boy: i really like you too
me: even though you're ten years older than me?
boy: how old are you
me: 24
boy: laughs and walks away
hmmm. not quite sure how to interpret this one. in retrospect perhaps bringing up the age thing was not my best plan of action. crap.
advil please

i'm not bitter, i swear
i read some description somewhere where they said, "dating in new york is like being a kid in a candy store." but i feel it's more like being a kid at home depot, where there's tons of shit and you don't want any of it, you just want to leave.
- time out nyc
that's brilliant. i also really enjoyed this tidbit from the b globe the other day:
All wanted the same thing: a decent guy, which, according to them, is rarer than a Celtics win.
and boxa reports that ann arbor is no place to find a lover either. thus we conclude, there is no place to find a lover. sigh. i will tell you where a good place to start is though - portsmouth. i swear, i have never been hit on, approached, told i looked good as often as last weekend. we were crossing the road at long sands beach in our bikinis and a bunch of bikers had stopped to let us cross, so i said thank you and one responds, 'no - thank YOU'.
yet another vote for the seacoast.
stay cool blog readers (and classy san diego)

hot child in the city
<--- the beer sampler at the portsmouth brewery
wow - a lot has happened. slightly overwhelmed at reporting it all, so will start with the basics and see where that gets me.
had the world's most PAINFUL dental procedure this afternoon: a root cleaning. perhaps this is why root canals are so dreaded. there is nothing like having 20 needles jabbed into different parts of your gum to numb it to encourage you to floss your teeth - i swear to god. and the worst part is i have to go back in two weeks to have the bottom done. i'm telling you - go to the dentist. i would not wish this procedure on my worst enemy (and i have several who probably deserve it). it's the dental equivalent of rabies.
went to bed at 8 pm last night - it felt AMAZING. there is nothing i like better than going to sleep when i am tired. i have been tres busy with traveling and things of late - i needed to catch up on my rest.
headed up to boston last wknd for an sd reunion wknd in maine. took me 6 hours on the bus to get up there - freaking hate fridays in the summer. the only thing getting me through, besides my blackberry, was the knowledge that when i go home next week i am flying to boston - not bussing. not good for the budget but VERY good for the spirit. weekend was great - diana, ceppos and laurak were in attendence - we beached, we ate seafood, we drank, we shopped, we danced. really big fan of the seacoast area of maine/nh - it's where i was born and went to school for a portion of time - to me it is home - and it has lots of redeeming qualities like fields and woods and beaches. hit up the portsmouth brewery where laurak had the brilliant idea of ordering the beer sampler. we drank the beers shot style to toasts of friendship, panhellenicness and legendary stories. like roast and toast on a mini scale. no one was taking notes, but they were the kind of thing that people don't often express - and i think that's too bad - so it was nice to hear the praises and redeeming qualities of friendship sung. saw elise briefly the night before for some pizong - she and the boy are in cambridge for awhile - they just bought a house! - and she starts school in the fall, but for now she is waitressing and happy to be back in new england and hopefully will be getting down to nyc before too long.
the week before last i was in california for an incredible trip. i think i can safely say that i have 'done' la - was all over the place. we stayed at the beverly hills hilton - could def get used to the room service and the pool! - spent a lot of time in santa monica - played pirate minature golf on the santa monica pier with my coworkers - arrrrlene, no-beard the pirate and my alter-ego - swashbuckling sam. we also rode the carousel - which aside from being a national historical monument is the carousel from the sting (fabulous! movie. oooo robert redford). we also sang impromptu karoke to the bus driver's music on the bus to the walk of fame, and had amazing seats at the dodger/mets baseball game - field level - total blast with the co-workers - major bummer we're not going to be working together for much longer. i drank like a fish - about on par with senior spring and i think i need a new liver.
my coworker and i also got a vip tour of the universal back lot - absolutely incredible - def recommend it if you're ever out there. basically, it's all these sets that they use when filming movies within an acre or so. so you're going down a 'street' of nyc and then turn the corner and it's the old west, and then mexico, and then europe. and then around that corner is the greek acropolis. truly unreal. there's also an incredible set of the downed 747 scene from war of the worlds. it looks so realistic it's scary. and we're tooling all around this incredible area on a golf cart vip style. was suddenly glad i worked for a major media company. see the fb album for pics. all is extensively documented thanks to the new digital camera that ceppos showed me how to work. ;-P
stayed out there the wknd with a friend of mine from high school - spent the day at the beach, drove up the pacific coast highway for some scenic views and had dinner in malibu. whirlwind but totally cool. that being said - i do not think that i want to move out there, so for the time being, job permitting, i am staying on the east coast.
busy wk continues - drinks tomorrow night with coleman and celeste, signing-off party for our company on thursday - expect that to be out of control. my boss asked me if i was getting ready for it today - i told him yes, i was eating lots of carbs and checking the weather to see if i should wear my hair up or down. =) party at taylor's on friday and then beach on sat on long island with vin, celeste and steger. and then home next tuesday for a needed vacation.
more updates: boxa is in england with her family for henley - she's taking a break from ann arbor where she's working an internship for the summer and smooching on boys. laurak, having finished her sailing stint, is en route to camp for the summer. post-summer is up in the air. i talked to allette while lounging by the pool in cali - she's still enjoying camp and she got another promotion - but she is trying to figure out a time to come back to visit - hopefully soon! lingley is also going to come down and see me on the cape over the fourth and ideally huyett too, as i didn't get to see her last wk when she was in nyc due to jet lag issues. apparently she saw robin though, who is off to portland this thurs to watch the boy compete in triathalon challenges. exciting!
it's hotter than blazes in nyc - does not bode well for the rest of hte summer. at least i don't have to move this year - thank heavens for small favors right?
send a tooth fairy to fix my teeth and rice sock for my bed (my coworker: so you want me to sleep with a rice sock?)

i love la
actually, that is not entirely true. i don't know if i love la - that is what we are going out to the west coast to find out - i will report back. since i was awoken from a sound slumber by the first issue of the trip, i figured i'd update as i have some time before i need to be at the airport.
had a great weekend last weekend even though christine was unable to come due to some crappy customer service from jetblue. her flight was cancelled after 7 hours in the airport due to electical storms, and as she said, she had lots of other things she would rather have done with 8 hours than spend it at logan. i still feel a bit confused by the occurance - i mean if you take the bus it takes a lot longer, and you'll prob hit some sort of traffic, but it's pretty much a given that you'll get here. the fact that she was taking the plane, which should have been easier overall, and still didn't make it doesn't really fit in my head. ah well. its an enigma wrapped inside a mystery.
so after that disappointment on friday night (side note - i hung out waiting for her to call with updates from the bar every half-hour and watched the starter wife. if you have not seen you should check out - i'm def enjoying the poignant silliness. highly recommend. reruns on usa) i headed out to stamford on saturday afternoon to hang out with laurak. she quite literally lives on a boat, along with sadie '06, at a marina ala crosby boatyard or something. i found it very cool - a refreshing change from my metropolis lifestyle. there was water, boats, beach roses, and the sight of the sea. we went for a sunset sail on saturday that was less sunset and more cold - should have figured it'd be 70 degrees and windy instead of 90 and blazing sunshine the one day i have access to water but that's neither here nor there - but it was great to sail and indulge in the world of maritime. i got to sleep on the boat as well which was an exciting adventure for me. a bit cramped, but after the sd couch i can sleep on anything, and this was a great deal better.
we had some brunch sun morning, walked around the park in stamford, waded in the water and then hit up target before i headed back to the city. stamford is actually quite nice in some areas - i was surprised. it was a great escape from the city and it made me really homesick for the cape. can't wait to go home for the 4th. laurak will be joining me, ceppos and diana for a trip to portsmouth next saturday - very excited.
caught up with celeste who is home after graduation. she is tired, emotionally drained and shell-shocked but excited to be in the city and looking forward to starting work at a prestegious investment bank. and so it begins. i also talked to robin - she's been traveling around the world to see the boy compete in triathalons - very nifty. i heard from allette, but didn't actually talk with her, so i don't know her status - will continue to try to get in touch.
otherwise it has been a lot of reflecting on life, distance travelled in the two years since graduation, etc. not coming to any conclusions. perhaps that is the conclusion. ala 'divine secrets of the yaya sisterhood' - it's life, you just get on the beast and ride. and it only has to make sense if you believe it has to make sense. the jury is still out on that one.
have a good week y'all. i'll catch you on the flipside.

gchat
here's how i officially know i am addicted to gchat - the one reason i am looking forward to the '07 class graduating is b/c it means they will have to activate (and use!) their gmail addresses - and i can add them to my gchat list, which is pretty much my most favorite thing these days. i know. it's sad.
otherwise - i am DEVESTATED by the fact the '07s are graduating. mainly i think b/c i am close to a lot of them and so hearing about their experiences and thinking about what they're up to is bringing back a lot of memories of when we did it two years ago - and let me tell you, it was not pretty then. at least this time around we have a bit more distance, but it's a little crazy. i can't believe that a class of kids could have such a large impact on my college experience when they were only in it for a year. insane.
found this HILARIOUS link from my coworker today - i can think of several cards i'd like to send to people who shall remain nameless right off the bat . . . . maybe you'll actually have the guts to send them: love the snark (snark = snide+remark. i know - brilliant)
send a payment plan for the dental work i need done (go to the dentist! insurane or not) and ideas for dinner

good morning, i'm chevy chase. and you're not
good morning all! woke up on the right side of the bed - all fired up to update this.
first things first - today is celestia's bday! let's sing, let's eat, let's jiggle our feet and send a shout out to her. =)
second - i know it's not wednesday anymore - but this week's boones for brains, as decided by laurak when she was in my bed last saturday morning with me and ceppos, goes to steger for getting a super awesome appointment in sydney (yes, in austrailia) and getting a kick ass raise for it as well. she leaves in august, and while we will miss her terribly, she rocks for this achievement. stay tuned for a boones near you.
yes - ceppos came down to nyc last wk, and laurak came in from stamford for friday night. we had a delightful time eating lasagna before heading out to meet up with some d kids post a d club of nyc event. i must say that we were pretty far gone by the time we got out - bellini's and andre (we're still as classy as we were in college) will do it everytime - but we had a great time listening to the band and then hitting up the joshua tree for those old (and new) time rock n' roll that we are all so fond of. hit up a pizza joint around the corner for some cluch late night food and then we collapsed into bed - quite literally for some of us - but it was so wonderful to have the usual suspects gathering!
saturday we saw more of queens than we ever hoped to in our lives when we trekked to the outer borough for beer olympics. the event began on a reflective rooftop - which was pretty much a recipe for skin cancer - and yet i burned the back of my neck like whoa. i suppose this is my fault. the olympics were fun - we played a game called 'hurdles' in which you suck beer out of a straw from ice cube trays. at one point i was looking around the room and thinking - here you have 30 college-educated graduates suck beer from ice cube trays. hello future leaders of america!' as mentioned earlier, none of the events were us d girls particular strong points - let the record show that d kids don't need sissy drinking games like quarters or flip cup when they drink, they just need a boat race or some doming that gets right to it - but we did hold our own in that we chugged and distance drank with the best of them. there was no black out point - rather just exhaustion from drinking for 5 hours straight. we had to stop and get some greasy chinese food that immediately made us feel ill - but helped with the hangover immensely.
ceppos and i couldn't rally for sat night - opting instead for sushi and animal house to celebrate our alma mater. we were up early on sunday for brunch and shopping with steger in soho. all around, an amazing weekend. we have another usual suspects reunion planned in june in maine - stay tuned for that.
in other usual suspect news, huyett is not in fact a delinquent as i may have implied in earlier posts. she, like many others, forgets that she knows all about my life from the blog and i know nothing about hers unless she CALLS me (email would work as well). anyhow, she's doing well in beantown - figuring out her next steps careerwise which just might bring her to nyc and planning her summer vacay. she will be down the wknd of june 23 for the event in nyc - so pay attention new yorkers! - and i hope to see her soon. i will also see laurak again this wknd when christine and i venture to stamford for the sunset sail on her boat. v. excited for boating, drinking and hanging out with the jb clan (or some of it).
my self-imposed detox from last wk lasted all of 2 days - have been out drinking both tues and wed. hoping to take it easy tonight though - straight home after work! have a dentist appt which i am in a weird way looking forward to. i HATE the dentist with the fire of a thousand suns, but getting a check up is vastley preferrable to the stress of wondering how my teeth are doing. i'm sure i have ten cavities, as it's been a long time since i went, but at least i'm getting that ball rolling. oh how i LOATHE being responsible some times.
christine is here this wknd for fun, and then i'm off to la for a week with work on tuesday. staying in beverly hills and doing some wining and dining and then i'm staying to hang out with a friend from hs through the wknd. never been out that way, don't know what to think/expect, don't know if i could live out there - but i'm about to find out - so it will be radio silence for a bit. you can still get me on email and gtalk though.
hope all is well with everyone, that they aren't too hot, seeing how it's only june 7 and there's a lot more summer to go. drop a line and say hi - no one needs the alumni bulletin anyway. . . .
hugs and kisses!
