so. figured i'd better update this before i get yelled at by the bored masses. was just reading the most recent issue of the alumni mag and am inspired to report on the happenings of our own little circle of alums and undergrads. and thus we will have an example of why the d alumni mag should hire me.
so. without further ado:
i talked to skips on sat morning. had decided to put on stevie nicks 'timespice' and was overcome by fond memories of 'gold dust woman (the wee beastie)' as was skips' reply-to for a REALLY long time. was good to chat with her, she'll be in attendence this wknd - looking fwd to seeing her. she's planning on being in chicago for the summer and enjoying so well-deserved time off from teach for america. she says she'll be back on the east coast in some capacity, but that there are lots of block parties, and chicago summer events that she does not want to miss, so she is not sure when that will be. perhaps we can all sojourn to dc to visit whit?
robin made it up to htown with kate b, and coleman. the semi-dressed semi formal was in full swing - i talked briefly to ceppos during the event, and the pics look hilarious. i hope the weather cleared up for the event and that many happy hours were spent sunning on the sd beach.
talked to allette on saturday night. she had made it to tn, despite the stick-shift challenge, and was chilling on a porch of the 'break house' i believe it was called? before heading off to nc to be a camper in counselor training camp for a couple days. she promises to post here when she gets internet, and says that we all should call her when we get together this wknd. apparently she could hear many wild creatures from her porch. eagerly awaiting your news la lette, and i have assured diana that while i will take allette's place this wknd and usher anyone that needs ushering out of the sd basement, as well as mop if need be, i wish to declare in this public forum that i do not really relish the idea of mopping, as the lord knows have done it enough while housemanager (hi boxa, lingley and overton), i can't poledance like allette can, and nothing will ever take her place. expect some drunk dialing friend.
laurak left me a message today. message was as follows:
hi ms. lyon. i know you're at work and can't answer this, but i'm in an aiport and i just walked by an EXTENSIVE vera bradley display, so i figured it was time to call you.
laurak had been in florida for the easter holidays, doing her best, as her fb status claimed, to get as sunburned as possible in four days. however, she is back in htown action now and will be there to welcome jess, ppocket, skips, boxa, swanny, mulley and myself for the 30th anniversary of women's crew at d this wknd. hot dog!
as for me, i had a low-key wknd. charlo was up at yale (and ally gives ME a hard time for going back - haha) so it was me, myself and i. ally and i hit up 'absolutely 4th' - the one with the cotton candy martinis i like so much. (we decided we like it better on tuesday at 6 pm, than friday, but was still fun) then returned the le apt for some drinks and hanging out. megh joined us, in fine form, for a bit. chatted (or tried to) with tay tay a bit, still confused over who it was i spoke to when i dialed her number. ally stayed over, and we spent a cold and rainy sat thrift store shopping. scooped up some steals, including a delightful bundt pan. i think nyc is the only place in the world where the thrift stores have security guards. am i right? took it easy sat night - was cozy like a bear in the pouring rain. cleaned up a bit sunday, made a spumoni cake - so delicious - and got dinner with my cousin before early to bed. v. relaxing.
psyched for the events of this wk - the new criterion, who edited the dartmouth review 25th anniversary anthology, is having a fiesta on thursday. in that it is 2 floors above my office, and porchcrawlers and pong are promised, we are hitting it up. (i swear, everywhere we go - d!)charlo's mom is coming on thursday as well, in preparation must clean in a futile attempt to convince her that we don't live like everyone else our age - in some mindless pit of empty alcohol bottles and moldy slices of cheese. we do, but we will try to put our best foot forward. heading up to boston on friday night to stay with diana, before roadtripping up to htown on sat.
now. i ask you, do i not report on the comings and goings of the peeps as well if not better than the alumni mag? someday, i swear, will edit that thing. mark my words. ;-)
