a prenup from the pirate lawyer?

i am also in the process of looking for a new place to live. even though you move less often in the real world, each move feels like a much bigger deal. a friend and i spent last weekend tramping around boston's south end looking for a place to call home for the next year. about halfway through the day it became apparent that many of the people whose apartments we lppked at thought us to be a couple. this was particularly pronounced in one apt that had a master bedroom and a study with a murphy bed, which the current tenant advised us would be perfect should we have any visitors. somehow the "two bedrooms of roughly equal" size request got translated to "relationship in a rough patch, probably staying together" rather than simply "roommates."
i am told that bequests happened in hanover tonight. bozz, who, after being bequested a neon yellow hat, struck the event wearing only that same hat. my evening was considerably calmer than bequests: i went bowling with a former co-worker and his girlfriend. they are both in law school and we discussed their summer internships. the girlfriend told me she is working in maritime law this summer and the co-worker announced, "she's a pirate lawyer."

in the summer time

so it's not technically summer as yet, but it feels like the transition has been made regardless. phew! it's been an epic week. and megh wants to hear about it. i think i have a moment or two before the roomie and soon-to-be roomie get home for dinner-cooking extravaganza to update.

last thurs - met up with will for a last minute drink and to recap green key festivities. the kid was able to escape from work for an hour so to my delight - enjoyed chatting with him about life, etc. joined him at his company work party - a nice group of kids over there. continued the company work party vein by meeting charlo and carmody at their work fiesta where we proceeded to get v. drunk and discuss issues that made carmody uncomfortable. this resulted in charlo threatening him with an un-invitation to the lake compound - which is dire indeed - b/c carmody proceeded to make up a party post work bar at this swanky club (too swanky for us i think). we had a delightful time dancing, carmody adhered to my drunken inclination to being 'dipped' while dancing (note - it is this reason why my dress from the spring formal is ruined. wanting to be dipped while drunk and relying on someone who is also drunk to hold you up doesn't work out v. well) in this case carmody held it together and we had a lovely time.

on friday headed up to the exeter reunion with charlo and kit. we were rocking the road trip, despite the traffic and bad weather. the mixes, if i do say so myself, were fantastic, and kit has hired me to dj her wedding, whenever that occurs. the readers know my skill at djing however - haha. made it to campus - met up with ally, who had arrived earlier in the week and ali, em and coogan who had arrived earlier that day. bopped around a bit, relived the good times at the boat house, then headed to portsmouth to our (chic alore) hotel and bars. the girls were all staying together in a room - so we got ready and headed to paddy's in portsmouth to get on with the reuning, as coogan called it. (quote: i wanna reune!) there we drank and scarfed down the buffett in an attempt to avoid awkward conversations. about half-way through we realized that the bar was going to be closing soon and we would be without, what allette calls, the liquid confidence - so kit and i made an epic mad dash to the nh state liquor store. this trip involved at least five u-turns, multiple high way direction changes, and a brief foray to maine. i think they need to put up some signs at the portsmouth traffic circle.

alcohol was purchased and we retired to a bar around the corner in portsmouth for more fun. we were all GREATLY impressed and thrilled at the non-nyc prices - i believe it was possible to purchase THREE drinks for $13 dollars. (charlo informs me it was two vodka tonics and a heineken). it was example number 500 million of how we knew that we were no longer in nyc (other ways included bars that claimed to have 'plenty of free parking' you won't find that in nyc no siree). there i ran into a classmate from barnstable (in true high school reunion fashion) who was randomly in town with some of her friends from college. i am the original person who knows people. or something. on the way home we encountered a clutch sausage vendor and purchased a lot of sausages to consume. unfortunately there was an incident on the way home that resulted in me losing my sausage and having a boy suck ketchup off my cardigan (which has mysteriously disappeared btw. it's probably with my umbrella - happy in the abyss or something) however, we made it home unscathed.

saturday we headed back to exeter for the class pic, some harkness table good times usa, and traipsing about the gym looking for pictures of ourselves. we walked a lot, sat in the sun, talked about how we could hardly believe that we had graduated five years hence. kind of scary. saturday night was a booze cruise in portsmouth harbor - so we all got dressed up (it's a miracle we didn't blow a fuise - ala getting ready for rush in richardson 309 soph winter), pregamed hardcore in the hotel room, and filled up our dasani water bottles and smuggled them on board. someone had the brilliant call of getting on board the boat early instead of milling around on shore and snagging sweet back deck table - so we had the best view AND got to get food first for the duration of the trip. jb was also playing quite a bit - i think we won. the weather had cleared up, there was a gorgeous sunset, and we were hanging out and drinking with good friends - what's not to like? later in the evening we played some 'never have i ever' that was rather entertaining. i think we were all drunk enough - so no one's deepest darkest secrets were exposed.

post boat ride (so drink it up, this ones for you, honey it's been a lovely cruise) we went to this club in portsmouth (i know. portsmouth has clubs? i don't even go to clubs in nyc) that was lots of fun once we had navigated extensive and complicated (for a drunk person) line situation. thank goodness i had em to pilot. danced for awhile once inside, my flip flop was stepped on and broken was was 'one shoe on, one shoe off' situation fairly early on. in true me fashion, ran into a d '05 in the club - huyett's cousin, who was visiting his friend in portsmouth. made them come back to the after party at the hotel (the whole weekend kind of felt like a wedding - lots of group traipsing and running back to the room) - ali was v. drunk, shuffling around with no shoes and an open bottle of wine. at one point i wished for nachos - and like magic! they appeared. my kind of party. a good time was had by all.

sunday - charlo, kit and em took off early, while ali, coogan and ben had bfast and then headed back to exeter to hang out. i played disc for the first time in forever - and boy was my arm sore on monday - hahah.

so was a good time - a little surreal - but i think everyone is in agreement that what could have been a disaster worked out much better than anticipated. was nice to hang with the girls and catch up - we've decided we all look grown-up and are suave, sophisticated professionals (maybe not - i don't remember a number of the pics - but they were candids right?). we survived unscathed - bring on the ten-year (although - all the ten-years were married and had kids. hmmmm).

so back in the city - massive heat wave it is not even june. learned today that jenny w will be interning at work for the summer. haha - anticipate some good times in that dept. walking home was noticing that it's def on to summer - counted at least four discarded futons/couches on the sidewalk. unfortunately reminds me that we must begin tortorous moving process in the next few weeks. all the gory details will be posted here - so stay tuned and live vicariously through me. yeah right.

okay! happy megh? was reading something today that was like - why is everyone so psyched on blogs? they are just people writing. never really considered myself much of a writer - so that's sort of a new way to look at this. perhaps i do have a future at the d alumni mag after all. or in interactive marketing. i am good at spreading information. interactively.

job satisfaction-ish

so today was kind of cool b/c i (pointing at shirt moment coming up here) landed one of our clients on the front page of the nyt. probably the only person that will appreciate this is megh, but it was above the fold, in the no. 1 position, and he was quoted twice. translation: big deal. am still a bit in awe myself, and perhaps need to, as my boss suggested, clip it for my scrap book. if you're wondering what the article is you can find it here. sometimes i really like my job. the rest of the time i am not so sure.

also came across some wise words that i liked a lot on my favorite advice column:

Whenever we stand by unable to act, uncertain, holding out, waiting for something that may or may not occur, we are not living. We are not discovering life as it unfolds.

Life is messy and uncertain as it unfolds. There is only a very small area around our feet that we can keep orderly and sure. The rest is going to be messy. It is going to be messy and uncertain. But in that messiness and uncertainty there is also magic and grace.

That is the deal we make with life. We give up our fantasies of perfection in return for a chance at actual magic and grace. You cannot find that magic and grace by observing, holding yourself at a distance, waiting. You cannot find it by waiting because it is not something that happens to you; it is something you create. You create it by wrestling with life.

very valid point i think. and something i need to remind myself of more often.

been relaxing in apt 27 in preparation for another big wknd - we're off to nh (yes, again) for the exeter five year reunion. let's go to fark.com for the how-to's of surviving a high school reunion. too bad telling people you do what you want is not on there. ;-) should be interesting.

sd formal is tonight (a mere two days after green key. they're so ragey). would that we were dancing (or booting) the night away at bates. but in true spring formal/bates fashion - is cloudy and cold. if someone ever attends a formal there when it is good weather please let me know. it would be news to me. but there is something about those fields that is conducive to illicit activities and hooking up. hi many people whose names will not be posted here to protect their future careers. ;-)

not sure if i've mentioned to the readers that diana, the lucky dog, is off to france at the end of the week for a little vacay with her friends from home. let's hope that she remembers that 'je suis une mauvaise fille' is french for 'i am a bad girl' (feel free to correct my renegade je ne cest pas french. =P

that's it friends! in the words of rocketboom - good tuesday to you all.

my head hurts, my feet (are dirty) and what did i do last night?

such was the theme of a v. successful green key 2006. the weekend got started on the right foot when i got accidentally drunk on wed with charlo and her friend. you know how that goes - just sat down with them to have a beer and suddenly we were making pina coladas, drinking everything in the apt and laughing hysterically at nothing in particular. said drinking caused me to wake up at 6:30 am on thursday morning - in plenty of time for the train-ride to yonkers to meet nugent and lingley. because of various complications, i ended up driving someone's car back to htown. definately wasn't factoring a five hour drive in a pick up truck into my green key plans - but who doesn't like a good road trip? this road trip was marred by the idiocy of the vermont state troopers - i got pulled over for going 80 in a 65 zone on 91. the guy was DEFINATELY sipping on the hatorade (or, as we coined later in the wknd - chugging on the hatorade) b/c he did not care that the passengers of the car were coming back from a funeral, and seemed to think that i had been doing 80 for miles and miles (not true). the guy was just a jerk. it was a good thing that our destination was hanover, and that there was a d pong tourney in progress when we arrived around 5 pm b/c i was sorely in need of a drink. played a couple of games of pong with ceppos, and hung out with the d folk, before we were booted off the table so they could play world war 2. headed over to bg with laurak for some t and cutters. i was smart and had only a sip or two, while others, who later regretted their decision, chugged the things. things do get a tad bit hazy at this point - i know i ended up back at sd and put on my unwrap me dress for champagne (incidentally, for a dress that looks like it's about to come off at any one time, it doesn't come off v. easily). was distracted by pong and the arrival of the '07 xh, so, as suspected, did not make it to champagne. once we began playing it was clear that said boy was in no shape to play another game of pong. he made it through three serves and then we had to sit him down and give him some water. he subsequently passed out on the first floor of sd, so we left him there and went to axa room to room tails. there was nothing room to room about the movement of the party - so i went to sig ep and took a little nap between 9 and midnight in keving's room. happily, kevin's roommate wanted to go to bed and woke us all up with his displeasure at finding me and kevin's friend passed out in his bed, so kevin and i went to the lone pine and ordered lots of food. laurak came and met us, and lo and behold, the '07 rallied in a big way to come join in the food fest as well. post nacho consumption we went back to heorot for some late night pong. i would just like to say that i ADORE late night pong. so fun. heorot had this b-side, third rate country mix that they kept playing though. (they have a cd changer that holds 100 cds and they were playing country i have never heard of. hmmm.) post pong we surrenderred to sleepiness and headed to bed.

woke up feeling pretty good on friday, despite the weather. got some delicious bagel basement and then walked down to ledyard in the rain to watch wet hot american summer and play some mario kart. hadn't played that in awhile - but i'm a pressure player and managed to pull it out by the end. headed back up around 2 to play pong - played a couple games, the girl's bball team was in the basement too, and before long we had pulled three pong tables together and were playing this 20 person game of social. with that many people and three balls you can imagine how much beer was spilled. good quote from my trippee, robo - 'i want the '06s to graduate so they know how much this sucks.' haha - well put. post-massive game of social we went to frat row for the block party - ran into my cousin and met up with megh. ceppos and i had next on a table at chi gam and were booted off by some brother. i was not pleased, and took a little break at phi delt. headed down to the track house at 45-47 leb to hang out. had a good time chilling with the track and xc guys - although the ceiling in their basement makes i hard to play pong well. it's a good thing everybody wins in pong! was down there for the rest of the night - a good time was had by all.

sat morning i lead a charge for playing a game of harbor at heorot at 10 am. for you non-dartmouth peeps - harbor is two pong tables, 8 people in teams of two and 21 cups arranged in 'ships'. it's played like battleship - if you knock enough cups out of a ship the ship is sunk and you have to drink the whole thing. i manged to peer pressure laurak into playing - although she was v. adament that she would not play initially. diana also arrived about the time of the game - and was keen to drink so she came over as well. had some other track folk (this playing of harbor on sat morning of big wknds is a running tradition) and this AMAZING cheesy techno, pop cd that was so awesome we had to steal it and take it back to sd with us. had a great time playing - lots of laughing and dancing to 'call on me' and the rest of the songs. and yes, diana, i will blitz you the songs asap.

went back to sd post harbor for more pong, this time with whit! who made it up on friday night. this part is also v. hazy, apparently i took a nap on the first floor of sd for awhile - but had a good time playing. went over to the d alumni event, saw dan w, and the other d folk and ate some crackers. was on my way to the pig roast at theta delt with them when i ran into a kid i've been meaning to play pong with for awhile (as i told megh when he called wondering where i was, i got distracted by sigma delt.) played lots of pong with the kid - danced and yelled a lot - before running into laurak who was going to the love shack to watch the pirate porn. i went along for that, but we couldn't get the burned copy to work on a mac - so was unable to watch it. rats! thwarted again. passed out soon after that.

sunday am staggered back to sd to find diana on the back porch with evan. we went to stinson's to go buy beer, the woman was like - usually only guys buy beer on the day after a big wknd - are you making a run for someone? - we said no - we're just those people. headed back to sd to play some more am pong, say goodbye to people, etc. and then i headed out with megh around 1:30. the drive was a bit surreal - i think the bloody mary's and the pong meant i wasn't really with it. megh and i basically had an adventure on our whirlwind tour of new england and the tri state area - kind of twilight zone-ish at times - but made it successfully back to nyc.

so green key is over, but as we said yesterday while we were lamenting the end of the wknd (while watching diana and evan play one one tree at 10:30 am) green key is really a state of mind that lives on, regardless of the weather, the locale, or the alcohol being consumed. a delightful time was had by all, those who were not there were sorely missed and i think another reunion is in the works to keep the good times rolling perpetually.

food for thought

here's a poem i stumbled across while browsing during the five or so thrift stores on the 3rd ave upper east side circuit. just something to think about:

The art of losing isn't hard to master;
so many things seem filled with the intent
to be lost that their loss is no disaster.

Lose something every day. Accept the fluster
of lost door keys, the hour badly spent.
The art of losing isn't hard to master.

Then practice losing farther, losing faster:
places, and names, and where it was you meant
to travel. None of these will bring disaster.

I lost my mother's watch. And look! my last, or
next-to-last, of three loved houses went.
The art of losing isn't hard to master.

I lost two cities, lovely ones. And, vaster,
some realms I owned, two rivers, a continent.
I miss them, but it wasn't a disaster.

--Even losing you (the joking voice, a gesture
I love) I shan't have lied. It's evident
the art of losing's not too hard to master
though it may look like (Write it!) like disaster.

tidbits

quick post before bed:

1. shout out to jess, who's bday is today. she's 23. hope it was delightful and wish we could have celebrated with you!

2. boxa has decided to go to michigan med school next year. it looks like karla has convinced one of us to go midwest. maybe it's one of those things where once you go midwest you never go back? but then again, anyone with the 'bostonian view of the world' on her dorm room wall will most certainly be returning to the fold at some point no? ;-P

long day

'reach down your hand in my pocket/pull out some hope for me/it's been a long day' - matchbox 20. that song reminds me of this kid i used to know. he would sing that song for me b/c my middle name is hope. =)

but seriously - it was a long day. i think someone was smiling on me though b/c when i managed to drag myself out of bed and lift my arms above my head to shampoo my hair, and think about what to wear and was ready to leave, some impulse made me grab the spare set of keys off the coffee table on my way out the door. figured out as i was leaving the office half hour ago that i had left my keys in my other bag and if not for spare set grabbing impulse would have been locked out of apt 27 til charlo returned from accounting. (aka - a fate worse than death).

great weekend - just tiring. i feel like i was whacked (sp?) on the head with an oar instead of having rowed with one. ppocket and i began the epic adventure by journying to nyac so she could pick up her coxing gear. a little jaunt through a v. green area of ct - haha. we made it to her mom's apt, where we were met by boxa, who had had a v. long day involving floods, poison ivy, and idiots (oh yeah - have to add that to the 'i hate' fb group. after months of boxa claming the fb should have an area to list things that you hate, as well as your interests, have created such a group to be updated regularly). boxa transported me and the pocket to philly where we stayed at skips's house for the night. got up at an indecent hour to go to camden where the races were happening. did have a v. enjoyable time hanging out with the parentals, rosi was there - she's so amusing now that she does not have to coach us. she was hanging off a point at the 1000 meter mark and relaying to skippy what was happening (the angle at the course can be v. deceiving). she also showed us the pwr point that she had made as a psych up for the team - our shout out from the doodad and mullett radio show was v. much appreciated.

race was, as anticipated, rather hellish - but we had a delightful time laughing and talking in the boat and doing all the things we were not supposed to do. charlo was stroking the yale boat right next to us, so lots of good natured trash talking and eviction threats ensued. i thought my hamstrings were going to fall off at the 1000 meter mark, but today they don't hurt so terribly. my lats do, and the stairs still aren't fun, but am not dead and that is a big success. i sustained a blister, but boxa informed me it was at a place that means i was rowing correctly. that's funny b/c as we started to row up the course for the warm-up (first time rowing in two years minds you) i realized i was doing many of the things i had done wrong for a long time all over again, but decided then was probably not the time to work on fixing those, rather self should focus on getting through said race. haha.

turns out one of the alums in the boat was a '77, same class as my dad, and she knew him at d. we took a picture that she will send into the alumni bulletin. i told my momma this when i got home and she was like 'oh, everyone knows your dad' or big jeff as the siblings and boxa like to say. tee hee hee.

so, was a success all around - although am sunburned AGAIN. (also again - totally my fault). my boss said i looked 'healthy'. this is a good thing since my assessment was more of a tomato look. haha. in that it appears that it will rain the entire time i am in htown - i think this is okay on the whole, though i suppose will would not approve.

just chatting with laurak and lingley, both of whom i will see v. soon in htown. laurak is roadtripping back to htown with lauren brown tomorrow, and lingley's tooth is better, life is better, everything is happy. yay.

speaking of big jeff - he sent a good article from yesterday's b globe about figuring out what to do with your life. as have had several quarter life crisis of late, and nary a d story assignment meeting to express them at, i am happy to receive this material. title, "forget the soul search, just do something." highly recommend it.

and on that note, we cue the music for monday, may 15th.

tgif

yay karla! she put in a late in the game gchat appearance - she's been sucked in - yesssss. didn't get to chat with her much b/c was DYING to get out of the office and let the wknd begin - but she did say that she has started a blog of her own! hot. more things to read while procrastinating at work and we can keep up with her life better. all good things. will add the link to the blogroll for easy access.

is there anything better than the feeling of leaving the office on a friday afternoon - knowing that you have 2,468 minutes of the weekend ahead of you? i suppose if you work in finance or one of those other jobs where you're slave to a little chirping electronic it wouldn't feel quite so nice - but today in the elevator was just savoring the feeling of FREEDOM. kind of like the moment when you hand in your last final and the term is DONE. and then you go blitz out and see who wants to play pong. haha.

some getting organized tonight, nothing too crazy. busy couple of weeks coming up. this week down to philly for sprints, next week green key, week after that i get friday AND monday off (hot dog!) for memorial day and it's the exeter five year reunion. (christ. how did it get so late so soon?) and then the weekend after that i am home to the cape for my little bro's graduation.

speaking of the little bro, hilarious article about jason and jill and their running careers on the cape from yesterday. i think if you read it you'll recognize the family resemblence. i'm telling you - there are three more, five if you count the parentals, people just like me out there (although they might not look the same). we will adopt laurak, or as she says, she can marry into the family, and be the red-headed mafia. mwhaha.

okay. that's enough. thank god for the wknd.

crike

i wasn't going to post tonight - it's late - i've been in a bad mood (significantly improved by 'animal house' and buds with mulley) but there are some things that just need to be said.

1. why am i the go to 'who's going to d' coordinator? do i look like a travel guide? everyone keeps blitzing and being like - who's going to green key, how are you getting there, what's the plan. i suppose i do have a penchant for getting everyone together and doing things but when it comes to traveling to htown i am at a loss. i have no car and an unflexible schedule that makes public transportation difficult. SO. for everyone's information: i am going to boston next wed night after work and crashing for the night with diana. then going up to htown via the d coach on thurs am. that is the plan stan

2. there are several people (mainly on campus) that i only ever hear from at like 3 in the morning. i suppose this is b/c they are out til all hours of the night, and it does make it interesting to wake up and check blitz (something akin to christmas without the tree and santa claus). interesting.

talked to laurak on the bus to the west side - she was chilling in chicago with lauren brown. speaking of chicago - skips will be back in philly to host me, boxa and ppocket on sat night. and then the torture will commence on sunday. in the words of mike baker, "there is nothing you can do to make this not suck. after the first 500 you'll wish you were dead".

it's true. it's gonna be an intense week and a half. ;-P

self call

so once again have been remiss in my duties. lots has been going on and i get caught up okay?

there has been a lot of talk about self calls lately. i did not realize this is primarily a d phenomenon (this is what three years of getting thing ggmm will do to you). plans are in the works to get shirts that say this along with some self callish thing in the back. the thing is - the self calling can get kind of confusing. from diana:

--- Diana 05 wrote:
people who like self calls are the shit.

(self call)
--- end of quote ---

see? but in reality, we/this blog is entirely self call all the time. so who are we kidding?

my blog shirt came today! really psyched and finding it hilarious. all your names are on it, along with 'objectional', pirate! (take that robin! and fark.) my life in the last three months in other words. glad you all are part of it. will bring it with me to green key.

are def rowing in the alumni race on sunday - already hurting at the thought of it. i played bball on sunday in the park by the apt for the first time in a LONG time and i can't lift my arms above my shoulders. this is rather ominous. i think it'll be fun though. (we had to take a quiz to show we had read the rules - i learned that the bow ball is there to keep people from being sliced in two when shells collide. six years in the bow and i am just learning this. i have a new respect for the bow ball.) i think the general plan is to stay at skips' with boxa on sat night - looking forwad to hanging out with the two of them. mulley and i just took some psych up pics for the undergrads - i think it will be fun, although my main motivation for agreeing to row, besides the opportunity to kick ass and provide running commentary in the bow with skips, is to get more tan and it appears it is going to rain. boo on that.

had a delightful wknd - went to the mets game on saturday with the folks from work - more tanning ensued and they won! baseball is much more fun when you're there in the stadium. megh's bday party was a success - had a delightful time meeting kevin's unragey amherst friends (i guess they can't help it that their game of choice, beruit, is so lame) and assorted others at red sky. a success all around i would say. speaking of bdays - diana's is this wknd - blitz and wish her happy bday.

also heard from la lette - she is not lost in the woods as we had feared. she said she is happy and healthy, has encountered a partner in crime also named laurak an auspicious sign if i ever heard one, and her fb status indicates that she is, quite literally, living in the woods. send her love.

plans are in full effect for green key festivities - whit will be putting in an appearance - so get excited for that. the weather had best cooperate b/c it seems the activies of choice will be tanning on the beach and playing pong - with some dance party thrown in. hot.

i have been listening to the music on my comp in order of song length. it shakes up the music in a way that artist, title and genre doesn't. interesting for sure. sometimes you just need to hear old favorites. now if only i could get them off my comp and onto a new one. hmmm . . . tricky.

heeeere fishy fishy fishy fishy!

one of my favorite sayings from sesame st:

hot dog!

one would think after spending all day messing around on blogs that i would not want to post on this one when i got home. if one was thinking that you would clearly be a one who did not know me v. well.

my new favorite thing (besides youtube) is rocketboom! it's one of the most popular video blogs (or vlog for short) on the web. i discovered it b/c of the blogging and i LOVE it. they do this daily with amanda cogdon that is just hilarious. i highly recommend you check it out and bookmark the page. it's my new favorite daily read. (watch?) today they have a delightful theme song and a link to the 'real life frogger' and a hilarious segment on jump boots with a wipeout scene that rivals that of the garden sneak attack cat that tay tay and i once set to the piano stripper music during finals soph spring. i wonder if those are on youtube?

talked to ceppos on the walk home. she informed me that, in true sigma delt fashion, my flip flops were still on the beach, the lucky charms were still in the bucket, only now floating with cigarette butts and keystone. also true to form i told her to put them in the tv room and will recapture them when i make my triumphant return in a few weeks.

speaking of green key, i STILL have not recieved my blog shirt. i am SO disgruntled. it'd be nice if i could get it sometime this year no?

shout out to mulley who was accepted into her dream play-writing program in london. so jealous that she has the option to go over and hang out (though - might make it easier to find a job in london if self had home base to work from) i wonder if she has taken the 'in what city do you belong' quiz.

plans are in the works to row in the alumni boat at sprints. ppocket has been coordinating, boxa, skips and rosi appear to be in as well. have not rowed in two years (ie since my coaches meeting at the end of junior spring). this ought to be interesting (shhh ppocket! don't tell wendy!)

here's what i know of the update: last i heard, laurak had actually left campus to drive home for a few weeks, and will be returning triumphantly for green key festivities - ideally for mtgs on wed night. lingley checked into to say that she had a tooth issue come up rather suddenly and was home recooperating in maine. send good well wishes her way. maynard spent last wknd on nantucket, and was not available to participate in the festivities. while i am v. angry at her for missing that - esp. after all the peer pressuring and taunting - i am sure green key will more than adequately make up for it.

i am peeling (100 percent my fault i know) and hoping to do it again this wknd. off to see a flick with megh in a few and then it's the freakin' weekend baby. time flies - whether you're having fun or not.

even snl thinks pirates arrrr cool

apologies to all who realize that from now on much of my posts will include video. apparently videoegg works with blogger now too - i have some gems that i would love to make available for public consumption, not to mention the endless possiblities it presents. will get on that stat.

here's the saturday night live clip of the pirate convention from youtube. a tad long, but still amusing:

the new mag from martha stewart living, blueprint, caught my eye today so i picked it up. so far, really enjoying it. the description on the spine is 'ideas, inspiration, upgrades, fixes, finds, shortcuts, checklists, breakthroughs, how-tos'. while persuing it i found a couple good quotes that resonate:

'new york . . . is where you come to become the next thing you'll be.' - bill buford in 'heat: an amatuer's adventures as kitchen slave, line cook, pasta-maker, and apprentice to a dante-quoting butcher in tuscany'. think about that (the quote i mean). and think about again. and think about it some more.

i also read this one:

"people who have made peace with themselves are the people i most admire in the world" - harper lee in 'mockingbird: a portrait of harper lee' i have to say that it is a damn hard thing to do, and there's no real way to do it, but if you can do that then you can weather most things, b/c you know that no matter what you're okay and you're you. so put striving for world peace aside for a moment and go for you peace. in the words of the bad girl's guide - we want 'feeling perfectly pleased being me'. =)

as the day draws to a close i wanted to do a shout out ala the 'doodad and mullet radio show' to megh - his bday was today - hope it was lovely, and we're all looking forward to the fiesta on saturday for the occasion. turns out megh hasn't been in vegas, just swamped with work. bummer all around, but glad to know you aren't lost in the desert on a horse with no name or something. ;-P

and there, my friends, you have it

dead parrot

of course having discovered youtube and sesame street, i had to discover youtube and monty python. below is the dead parrot sketch of huyett and my fame. sadly the scarlett parrott of shame was not included in the box of 'lyon's shit' that was in the storage room in the basement of sd. there was, however, a blazer i had borrowed last fall to walk home and never returned, a shirt i thought i had lost for good, and a headlamp from light years ago. hilarious. i wore the headlamp and blazer during the game of tree on saturday - which, btw, i had a miraculous, amazing throw-save sink. still bloody pleased about it in fact. and diana and ceppos were belittling my pong skills. yeah - that's right. sunk and drink your full bad ones.

can you tell me how to get

OMG - i have died and gone to heaven. the online video sharing site - youtube - of 'lazy sunday' fame - has TONS of clips from old school sesame street! i ADORE sesame street. when i was little my dad would sing the theme song and i would dance in my highchair. i will be able to amuse myself for at least three days checking things out.

this clip is the martians from sesame street - they can materialize through walls. i guess when i was little and would watch sesame street i would be scared to death of them b/c i thought they were going to materialize through my television. haha. i guess some things never leave you. yip yip yip!

enjoy =)

may day

haha. happy may all. i, myself, forgot to say rabbit rabbit. perhaps it was b/c i was distracted by the sunburn, the feeling i had been hit over the head with a hammer, not really sure. anyway - yeah.

sorry have been so remiss in updating. it's a good thing megh has been distracted by gambling and women in las vegas and unable/not bored enough to demand that i update. or maybe a bad thing. unclear.

v. busy last couple days - hit up the new criterion party on thursday night - had some batch in a supermarket cart - pretty sweet. it had three muskateers floating in it. surprisingly - the combo of candy and alcohol was not terrible (perhaps a true-life representation of 'candy is dandy but liquor is quicker?). jess had made it by then - so we all stood around (telling jokes!) and chatting before heading up to the ues to meet up with charlo and her momma. had some drinks in an irish pub before heading home to bed. charlo's mom approved of le apt (little does she know it was rather messy before massive disney cleaning effort on wed night. j/k, j/k) and we had a delightful time chatting with her. upon initally meeting mrs. charlo, also named the best name ever - kate, she goes, "i've seen lots of pictures of you!" which made me really nervous for a second - how? where? what was i doing? was i clothed? but was relieved to find out she meant charlo's smug mug pics. phew!

friday it was off to boston for the night - made it beacon hill to find some drunkies - namely, diana, glassman, and cashman, who was off to la in the am. sat around, watched some law and order and had some sangria before crashing around 3. considering the late night, and our inherrent tendencies to not get our act together v. fast, we were up and ready to go surprisingly early in the am. i received phone calls from huyett and kevin g at 9 am and 9:05 respectively. perhaps 9 am is the time when dialing is allowed on sat am. hmmm. made it up to htown by 12:30 after a delightful road trip - had lunch at molly's per diana's schedule of activities, before hitting the basement for the world's longest game of tree, and then a follow up game of shrub. when ceppos was called away to sloshball, laurak took over, though i think she was not as into the 'call on me' dancing as we all were, and was v. anxious for us to take a walk around occum. we kept being interrupted by crappy playing, people coming to say hi, the usual. finally made it out on the walk, but only as far as sig ep before we had to turn around and go to the green. stopped in rocky on the way where there was a three-table long spread of baked goods. doughnuts, muffins, scones, danishes - all just sitting there. we snagged a platter adn took them with us to the green. before we left diana wrote in huge letters on the chalkboard - 'sd4life biatch! love diana marie l', along with her cell phone number and 'call me if you want to talk about how sweet sd is.' received any phone messages yet diana? =P

after some chilling on the green went to visit kevin g in the river apts where he was preparing for d tails. then headed back to sd to play some early one-on-one with ian, '07 xh. after several games of that, we were joined by the rowers, including rosi, who i apparently told was not legit (but only b/c i thought she said i was a blackout queen, which i then was told i informed her that i only began blacking out after i graduated. apparently what she had said was where was the chair with my plaque on it in the basement, which, in my defense, does kind of sound like blackout - esp after three games of one-on-one.) ian traipsed down the hill with me to d tails around 9 - where we enjoyed some mona laui and vodka with the d folk, before heading back to campus. ian thought it would be a good choice to cut through the cemetary, and i would like to refer you back to the early mention of mona laui and vodkas when i say i agreed with him. so we went off roading through the cemetery - both of us wiping out entirely down a hill at one point (he said he was still finding pine needles in his clothes as of today). after a stop back in his room we headed to xh for the foam party. dancing in foam = v. good idea. i took off my shoes, rolled up my pants and danced. total blast.

headed back to sd around 1, met up with br, '08 alpha chi, and played more one on one before passing out in the tv room around 3:30. pretty solid all around. =P

diana had pleaded game over around 10, ceppos was mad and playing mad games of ship at chi gam, lingley was passed out from sloshball and pong at phi delt, celestia was studying for her midterm today, laurak was lost in the abyss before ending up back at bg. we all rondevouzed again on sunday for some major sunning on the sd beach. am ridiculously sunburned in fact. but enjoyed it so much - looking forward to more of the same over green key.

lovely trip back with jess and mulley - the trip is much more pleasant with warm temperatures and sunshine. listened to some old mixes, learned the importance of bringing your own golf cart (byo golf cart) and reminisced. delightful all around and am rather looking forward to green key.

stick it! tonight! hot. i love movies that are total crap but oh so entertaining. =)

and there you have it
