whirl-wind tour of new england

hi friends!

the past few days, and upcoming ones as well i guess, are kind of hectic - have 10 plans in the works. i suppose this isn't too surprising knowing me - boxa would always get mad at me when 30 people would show up for homecoming, all needing to stay in richardson 309 b/c i had overinvited - but by the end of the day it's like the more the merrier right??? =P

anyway - here's what's on tap - my sis (cornell '07) recently quit the bball team, which means she has more time then she knows what to do with. as some of you may know - cornell doesn't go back til the end of january, but the winter sports teams always have to come back way early and hang around in hotels until they can move back into the dorms. yuck. anyway - she is free free free from taht idiocy - and will be traipsing around new england with me. i think the plan is boston tonight and tomorrow - huyett, reiten, and ceppos as well as colin, kevin, and dax will be around. lingley wants me to go to maine, somehow we must get to hanover . . . i think we will just have to load up the jeep, toot the horn and say 'arrievaderci, adios and ciao!' and take off. the spontaneity plan sort of appeals to me - in the words of my dad - 'life is either a great adventure or nothing at all - here's the great adventure'.

in other news - celestia is back in the states - looking forward to chatting with her, and it is laurak and taylor's bday today - so send them birthday wishes. have also heard that allette is going to try to make it up to htown - a joyous reunion to be sure.

anyway - stay tuned to see if any of this stuff actually comes to pass. ha ha. never a dull moment.

presents for pretty girls

well friends - the holiday has come and gone. it was rather uneventful - le fam walked down to the beach with dogs in tow for one of those 'family pics on the beach' opportunities. all the pics came out terribly. was amusing in a bad sort of way. tee hee hee.

i played 'bop it' with my mom - laurak had a bop it in her car when she was in boston with us - ceppos and i had a delightful time with it despites its somewhat catchy/annoying sounds. ha ha. also played fooseball for the championship of the world with my dad, bro and sis. if only d had had fooseball tables. if there are no pong tables in the real world, the closest thing to sinking a cup is jamming it home from downtown. so satisfying. =P

enjoying the 008 days of 007 - one of the best james bonds (in my opinion) is on - live and let die. tons of good quotes. is possible to tune in and out of the movie as have seen it many times - but highly recommend it. v. useful quote: solitaire: i know who you are, what you are and why you've come. you have made a mistake, you will not succeed. bond: rather a sweeping statement, considering we haven't met. oh that bond.

maynard blitzed - apparantly she's in paris. lucky. so's celeste for a few more days. thinking of visiting with lingley enroute to hanover - maine. the way life should be. tee hee hee!

out of the loop

i forgot about this - but i came home on thurs - and my bro (senior in hs) immediately informed me that i could have some customized ring tones for my cell phone - courtesy of him - for the low price of 5 dollars towards the cost of the cable necessary for this technological wonder. my sis (cornell '07) already has 10 - including 'my humps' for text messages. i, on the other hand, said - jason - my phone is on vibrate most of the time - the last thing i need is ring tones. mind you, i didn't even get a cell phone until this summer. it's so sad. jason's a '10 at d, and, aside from the fact there are soon to be '10s at d, am realizing that his d will be v. different than ours. will he even care to check blitz? i certainly hope so.

only time will tell. going to play bball with my other sis. or make clam chowder. chowder, chowdah!

it's a good thing you're cute

my family has always had german shepards. it's just a thing. the two we currently have - logan and moxie - are rather badly behaved - especially logan. my mother likes to say it when he has caused some trouble - like the time he ate a wiseman from our nativity creche from jerusalem. i am fond of saying it to shake things up. though there have been some times when it's been true.

many of you like to tell me how weird i am (most of the time you mean this in a fond, affectionate way). i suppose this is not surprising - but my family is exactly the same way. everyone quotes the staple movies (nemo, shrek, monty python, a funny thing happened on the way to the forum) all the time - and puns - esp from my dad - are common place, and my mom tells fractured fairy tales. so it's not my fault. ha ha. there's no place like home for the holidays. or so says the song that's been stuck in my head for the past three days. that carol, and the one that allette and boxa and i like to sing that's a joyful and upbeat tune, perfect for skipping down the street or serenading food court.

chatted with diana on le telephono yesterday - she's off to ca for a few days, and then alabama for new years. here on the cape nyc feels v. far away. kind of like over homecoming when being at school felt normal but then i'd remember i had an apt and a job in nyc and that was just weird.

no matter what happens - growing older but not up

holy hell

just read an update from susie so scandalous - i think that's one of my favorite sayings of hers - definately worthy of a blog title. another word i like to say a lot - as those of you reading this probably know - is disaster. but haven't really said that as much lately (as, say, last fall) and this blog post certainly isn't disasterous - so there you have it.

it's been a bit since i last posted - why you may ask? it was a hectic 48 hours. one csb came to town and he, megh and i proceeded to get pretty smashed within a one block radius of joshua tree. i knew this was going to happen - but i kept saying 'i HAVE to go home and pack! don't let me forget to pack!' as we got progressively drunker. of course - did not pack that night, woke up late, and threw four days worth of clothes into a suitcase as i rushed out the door to walk the 3 miles to work. approximately 15 minutes before i was to leave for the bus that would take me home to the cape - my boss tells me that the office is closed all next week and i don't have to come in until jan 3. while this is a windfall in many senses - it also kind of messed with my head. was not PREPARED for something like this. so might have to return to the city to assist with moving charlo in but i really hope not. a blitz from mulley this morning informed us that angelina joelie is having the best year ever according to vh1. humph. i don't know about that. but i had a pretty good 48 hours - that's for sure. ;-)

woke up this morning at home to the sound of barking dogs. i was like - what are those dogs barking for?!? it didn't fit with what normally occurs in apt 27. however am home for glorious days of doing nothing and hopefully will go up to hanover straight from here. it goes to show you never can tell!

fools of the world unite

On a vaguely related note, you might not have known that the most frequently repeated line in movies is "Let's get out of here.

came across this interesting fact while researching what "mutual funds to invest my 401k money in. in the words of one c 'super' barry - 'ew gross you're an adult'.

sigh. i know. growing older but not up right?

i like the motley fool a lot though - you know how gmail picks stuff out to show you based on your blitzes? (some pretty amusing stuff has appeared - let me tell you) well the google tool bar does the same based on what you read/sites you look at a lot. i do a lot of business related stuff with tuck and all - so i'm always getting pop ups from the MF and i'm rather partial to them i must say.

they're humorous in their writing and apparantly their employes get a pretty good
deal, like vacation whenever they want and stuff. too bad i know v. little about finance. did check out one book at the howe library in hanover though, the idiots guide to money. didn't really help. ;-)

someday though, plans are in the works for an sd company. i think pr/marketing/communications is being tossed around, as well as brilliant ideas in which we open a camp or a bar in manhattan that has pong. don't worry friends - will brush up on my 'what they don't teach you at harvard business school' before then

baby, it's cold outside

"We have to get the Coke to the people," Padilla said. "Just because there is a strike, people don't stop drinking coke."

i think this is one of the dumbest things i've ever heard. is coke really a priority in this troubled city? in the words of cher 'i don't think so!'

just how cold is it outside? unfortunately - i know the answer - b/c i walked two hours to work and back. at least i was in good company. someone i know walked two hours each way. stupid strike. did get to chat with ceppos as i walked though. she just accepted a job in boston next fall. thank goodness we're keeping her on the east coast. v. disgruntled at all those peeps who are back on the west coast, never to be seen again until wedding time rolls around. weddings? i love weddings! drinks for everyone!

can't wait friends. still call not it on getting married first though =P

wwjbd?

as long as we're on the subject of laurak sayings (the scope of which we could never hope to cover here) i am reminded of the night that she and i were playing pong in the sd basement - i think it was the night ladies night (remember them?) were playing at the ABCD's - against two boys. i think we had just defeated some boys, a feat in itself, and were losing terribly to the next pair. at this point my reply-to was whatwouldjimmybuffettdo? (mind you this was before we had to give up creative and awkward reply-tos for the grown up and real world ones like our initials). anyway, we had to rally and we were trying to psych ourselves up so laurak was like - what would jimmy buffett do? and i was like - kick their a@@ and take them out for a drink.

instead of taking them for a drink - we did indeed rally to win and they were forced to drink the entire shrub in quick succession. that was a good night.

i would just like to say

that i feel very honored to have been invited to post on this blog (hi lyon)---as girl the lovely 05s adopted last year i guess it is only fitting

and yes, i described lyon to many an 08 pledge this year (and my mother) as the girl you could stick in a white room with nothing to do and she could amuse herself for many many countless hours

i will never be as funny as lyon so i will definitely not try.

legend in my own time

[singing] I'm Susan the happy trotting elf! I trot and trot and bounce and bounce and smile a lot and that's what counts! I'm Susan the happy trotting smile a lotting elf! I'm polite so just for clarity, when I'm cross I say "Apparently!"

i just find that so amusing. and would like to act out a skit of some sort in which i get to say that. it's a fantastic visual. a happy trotting elf. oh tra la la.
kind of like the dead parrot sketch.

i think some minutes from sd meetings will have to be posted here - some of them crack me up. in the words of ceppos - i guess you really could put me alone in a room with nothing to do and i would amuse myself the entire time. or so she described me to a pledge . . .

itblegendinmyowntime=P

thank you very much for this f*&%!ing gift. now get out of here, you're on my land

the above is from an advertisement on the subway. it seems like something johnny depp would say in pirates of the caribbean. i can see laurak saying something like it too though. another advertisement i found humorous on the subway was 'you are now standing in one of our high tech new subway cars. if you aren't, we will speak to the person who put up this ad." v. monty pythonesque. but kind of weird for the subway.

this particular post is, however, about the picture you see there. i received this pic out of the blue, from an unlikely person, approximately a year after it occured. while these are all strange things (perhaps the strangest being that it says lyonS. i have made it my life's work to immediately correct people upon their using this form of the name, which diana found sobering - but that didn't stop her from deciding that is my new nickname - grrr) the strangest is that i was not really all that drunk when i decided it was a good idea to do this. i like to kiss people in pics - i hate them in general so you might as well jazz it up with some fun and they usually turn out cute! but i was fully aware of my senses when i told someone to take a pic of it. interesting. alert readers will also recognize it as my current facebook photo. how do i get myself into these situations . . .

in the words of patrick from coupling, 'i can explain, yes i did.'

also - i know many more of you have the ability to post here - that being the general idea of this blog. it could v. well turn into - 'lyon's take on life' but we should at least give it the effort no?

the doodad and mullet show does nyc

had a delightful time with mulley last night - we bopped around and went to a dartmouth gathering. lots of '04s, but some '05s as well. mulley and i are going to a play at her theater shortly.

we miss the radio show. perhaps we could make up some playlists and it would kind of be like our show. without the scathing social commentary and amusing antics of the weekend. though i guess that is what this is for. ;-)

lingley is coming to the city i believe - we will have a reunion and rousing good time next week. v. excited for that.

i can't believe xmas is in a week. on that note - what is it about xmas that makes people think that even though someone has not liked them for the entire year they will suddenly change their minds and fall in love with you just because it's christmas? have you NOTICED how many movies have that theme? i suppose it's rather anti-doodad of me to be thinking things like that - but seriously. observation and reflection friends.

sigma delt: putting the class back in basements everywhere

the above is a suggested slogan?motto?phrase?t-shirtlogo?themeforrushnextyear? suggested by laurak.

personally, i think it seems to imply that school work of some sort occurs in the sd basement. HAHAHAHAHAHA. that is not true. but sure - works for me.

as for boxa's comment - that is enough out of you. the lord knows sd's purpose and reasons for why it is better than other sororities on campus that will not be named here has been debated at length. and perhaps the '03s would not agree. who knows. discuss amongst yourselves

ha--the doodad

doodad has been writing too much pr--just read her response to maynard's email.

"sigma delt has always been about..."

god. when else do you read that except in a brochure describing an institution of finer learning.

ring in the new

one of our esteemed members blitzed this out yesterday (name changed to protect the innocent):

--- xxx wrote:
Hey, who the hell is coming up for New Years?

Can we plan an EVENT?
--- end of quote ---

it made me laugh - i can totally hear her saying this. happily - several plans are in the works for new years festivities and YES! we CAN plan an event!

we had such a lovely time last year - it was like a three day slumber party - that have decided to return to htown this year. i think the following comment - uttered by someone who did not attend last year rather sums stuff up - 'who goes to htown for new years?' i would like to think we are something along the lines of trendsetting. if we were into trendsetting. i think sd has always been more about having as much fun as possible and if people want to join then the more the merrier. i'm sure adventures will abound this year though . . . ;-)

we must give credit where credit is due

so here is the link to the comic that gave this blog it's name, and inspired the oh so creative 'nobody defenstrates anymore' shirts of genius

ultimate sd basement mix

what are the songs that should most definately be on the ultimate basement mix?

laurak has made the legacy mix - some fine choices there including 'escape', 'since you been gone', and the now-nausea inducing 'like a prayer' - but what else?

consider this a recepie for burning . . . ;-)

blind faith

ha ha - am having fun playing with the abilities on this blog. no idea what this pic is - hopefully it has to do with sigma delt!

from laurak

le blog is in the midst of getting organized - in the meantime here's a 'in your face' posting from ms. laurak:

I need three for pong. Soon.In other news, I was just at the bookstore and was looking at this book some guy wrote after visiting a bunch of colleges including Dartmouth. In a section about greek life, Sigma Delt gets a total shout out. That's right biatch.

tra la la

hi friends!
