am paying the price for going months and months without being sick with a double whammy of a cold that i've had all week. interestingly, it was only yesterday that people were saying 'whoa - you look awful', when i hadn't been able to speak properly all week. unclear. anyway - was unable to go and meet up with kevin, dax and colin who are in the city this wknd - i opted for bed in the hopes that i would be better able to hang out tonight. we shall see.
but, it is prob a good thing anyway b/c i am addicted to uploading cds to my ipod - so am quite content to sit at my desk and catelogue my cd collection (and that of my roomate allison as well). this is the first ipod i have ever had - so have quite the collection of cds - from a v. long time ago - like junior year of HIGH school with all this (now) old school stuff like 'jump around', the coors, and ace of base. luckily the 30 gigs can accomodate much more music than i have - so it is okay to just put it all on there randomly.
new computer is also fabulous. i sort of feel like when you've been putting off buying a tool that you need in favor of shoddily winging it for a long time and then when you finally do you realize just how easy your life could have been all this time. this computer holds a charge, gets wireless in my room, doesn't pop up wth 'the harddrive has run out of space on disc c' 24-7, etc. it's amazing. well worth the outlay of cash required.
have some tidying up to do today, laundry, and i think it's time to buy some medicine. i am not normally a big medicine person. i always take half the dose, and the percocet when i got my wisdom teeth out, instead of giving me the greatest high of my life and inspiring me to become addicted to prescription drugs, just made me feel sick to my stomach and dizzy and i had to stop taking them after one day. however, this illness should have run it's course by now and i am kind of alarmed that it hasn't. hence - trip to the drugstore.
also wanted to comment on the d mirror article about d blogs. i always go check out the mirror on friday afternoons, and when i saw that was the topic i was like 'oh shit'. i always walk a fine line with this blog here - given that some of the content is questionable, and i don't think that having my employers stumble upon it would further my aspirations of management at a fortune 500 company - and i was slightly concerned that that might all have been for naught if it had been published in the paper - but fortunately my name, and/or address was nowhere to be found. a narrow escape. i will, however, be in the next issue of the alumni mag - thanks to soh won. her friend is writing an article on 'you know you went to d if' and i directed her to my fb group of the same name, to which she responded that she could use them if she could attribute them to me. keep an eye out. of course, i could also send in an update about my life and land myself in the alumni mag, but that would be too easy wouldn't it. or too lame. unclear. keep on rocking in the free world

boones for brains - real world style
laurak also awarded me boones for brains for the party over the wknd. as the scholarship chair for the '05 class it was her job to collect nominations from people who had done good academic things over the week (or, really from other people who's friends had done good academic things over the week - but this was a v. gray line. allette nominated herself for 'crushing rocks' during her off term junior spring every week) and award them boones. usually a pretty good deal as one could start drinking their award immediately upon recieving it.
i have some good meeting notes saved in my blitz about boones for brains and laurak:
from the 'girls gone wild' minutes senior fall:
Laura K (or nelly as the waterpeople insist on calling her) is "in charge of certain academic functions". She announced that boones for brains was going to some Reed and Robin for taking a test when the fire alarm went off. And Whitney for getting the best grade on her psych test. Laura K maintains that there is some sort of connection between the "orange hurricane" boones variety and getting your power knocked out for two days. Whitney claims that she deserves said boones as a "tree fell on my bedroom". i assume this is in reference to Hurricane Frances.
from 'don't prop the door (guys i mean it) meetings, also senior fall:
Laura K marched in, announcing that she had "scholarship chair announcement...but first she had to check blitz". after a quick blitz break she announced that her award of "Orange Hurricane" boones was awarded to Liz allen. Her power will go out for two days as a result.
from 'benevelonent despote' meetings, you guessed it, senior fall:
Laura K (dressed as a pirate: arggghhh) described the future wine and cheese events. Later in the evening she gave boones for brains or shall we say "liquor for lawyers" to those who took the lsats. glassman also took the gres.
boxa took all the notes and came up with many of the themes of the meeting notes. but i digress.
anyway - laurak magnanimously awarded me boones for 'boxing up my stuff' when i was moaning about having to move a few weeks back and here she calls for more 'real world boones awards':
--- LauraK wrote:
I would like to do a little throwback to old times and hand out a boones for brains. the award this week goes to lyon for having a party at her place this weekend. I feel that post-graduation this award may extend to this outside the classroom. a la lyon had a lot of brains to have a party right after I arrived on the east coast. I think this new version has potential. Perhaps i will blitz out next tuesday for nominations and make this a weekly award.
--- end of quote ---
thank you laurak and i am all for it. bring on the boones. lest the old traditions fail.
okay now i'm really late. eeek!

exciting things!
like the title says:
1. my new computer comes today!
2. kevin garland is coming this wknd! (as well as colin, and hopefully lingley. steger and i peer-pressured really hard - we'll see if our years of practice pay off)
3. this blog has had over 1000 readers! if i was a little more technology savvy, and had a bit more time on my hands, i prob could have orchestrated some sort of a 'congratulations! you are the 1000 visitor to this blog!' pop up with confetti baloons and a free ipod - but i'm not. all i can say is thanks for reading about my humble exploits - if it has provided you with a spark of enjoyment throughout the long dreary days at the office - i'm glad. keep reading.
4. www.fliptrack.com - cool site that launched yesterday (oooo - tell your friends and look cool). you pick a song and then upload your pics and they set the pics to the beat of the song. v. easy to use. make your own music videos!
5. hilarious digital short from snl. i don't dare put the actual video from youtube on here for fear of receiving a cease and desist order and/or my employers finding this while searching the web for pirated content, but you all should youtube 'business meeting'. 'i say we put mustard on it!'
and on that note - we cue the music
send work outfit ideas and 'congratualations! you are the 1000 visitor to this blog!' balloons

omg
oh my god - i have this massive massive crush. like can't eat, can't sleep, knees go weak, mind goes blank crush.
today he called me back in and told me i looked very nice ( i mean i did - banana republic shirt dress and new peep toe brown heels) but does this mean:
a. i look awful on other days
b. he has a crush on me
let's hope it's the later. i also have a sore throat - and despite drinking many vodka cranberries and vodka grapefruits at the company open bar - i still feel really crappy. bed for me.

black fly in your chardonnay
i come online yesterday (or tried to at any rate) to blog about how i FINALLY have bought a new compuer (yes boxa. i took the plunge.) and how it's going to be sad to say goodbye to this one - we've been through so much together in the last 6 years, it's like graduation really happened to stop using my computer from college - and the stupid thing would not load properly. so i promptly stopped being nostalgic and teary-eyed about a dumb piece of equipment and threw it out our (first floor) window. good riddence to bad rubish! just kidding. but i did get v. angry and stomp.
saturday night was a big success - sangria was a hit unless people were lying to me. i got v. fucked up on it - i was pleased. megh, back from phoneix, attended - he says he really doesn't mind it there all that much, and that he will be back in the city this week and next (i think). he is planning zach rubeo's bday party on saturday - we shall see how that goes. he had to rush off to another party - he would have had more fun if he had stayed at 1 e, but you know how it goes. laurak came in from stamford with sadie martin '06 and two of their soundwaters boatmates. stein and steph lawerence came by - great to see the two of them as well as steger (who ate frozen waffles half way through and then went out with katie lanie and came back with a clutch pizza. typical), some random kids from the cape, vinithia came out in full force and enjoyed herself i believe. littlechen made it over late night as well, but was v. angry that we were playing kings and not dice, ala psi u basement, and made a rule that after the kings game we had to play dice. this did not happen, or maybe it did, b/c i passed out around 3 and woke up in bed with laurak. all around - great family fun.
the usual suspects are planning a sd beach part two trip - aka the sd mountains for sometime in june. planning on a summer jaunt up to the grant - and while this sounds far off, it is not - planning is in order.
today is tropical sauna day in nyc - aka 70 degrees (yesterday it was 40). time to break out the skirts! meeting kit for lunch at the shake shack - at least that is the plan. it's hard to meet someone for lunch there - it's really more of a stand in line for 40 minutes waiting for your lunch and then eat it really quick - but i suppose you can still talk and catch up with someone.
been meaning to mention this, but i know work with a lot of men - guys really b/c they're relatively young - and all of them are extremely polite. i mean - debating the proper ettiqute of going through our building's revolving door (guy goes first to push so the woman doesn't have to) and getting into cabs and sliding across the seat (again, so the woman doesn't have to). i'm not sure why i've been noticing this behavior so accutely - maybe b/c the type of ettiqute i'm used to is a frat boy asking if they can get me a beer so i'll be beholden to them later if you know what i mean - but it is a little strange. besides, i'm a woman of the 90's - as my social studies teacher in 8th grade used to say - and i can do these things myself. fuck it - i'm shutting up and enjoying it.
send memories of the way my computer and i were and shades

i want my (starbucks) coffee
here's something i've been meaning to post on for awhile - the phenomenon of people putting straws into their starbucks to drink it. what is the purpose of this? to drink on the go? regardless - it looks dumb. and i would think, even if you were drinking on the go, you would take a big sip while crossing the street and burn the crap out of your tounge. am i right people?
yesterday it was FINALLY a little nicer in nyc. well, warmer. not really nicer. i am in dire need of brown shoes - most of my skirts only go with brown - which makes getting dressed a little difficult - must remedy that situation asap.
we are gearing up for our fiesta tomorrow - apparently the roomies are having lots of people to stay over so we'll have a big houseparty as well. tonight my mission before going out is to concoct 'inger's special sangria' aka 'the elixir of love'. that should be a crew team bequest for christ sake, seeing how we were introduced to it by an '02, and then perpetuated by an '03, and then finally me. goodness knows it's my go-to, but much like jaeger - i've never had a dull night while drinking it. tomorrow should be interesting - i think my roomies are underestimating the intensity with plans to go out post and drinking of kettle one. i was like - um - i wasn't planning on going anywhere, and my friends are perfectly fine with zenhka. either way, i think as long as there is enough alcohol it will be fine. had to tap into karla's former social charing ways to determine the cost of some handles - i think she enjoyed the blast from the past request. =)
huyett passed along this link for your procrastination pleasure - one of her friends is embarking on the mysterious journey of match.com (she promises to invite anyone who reads the blog to the eventual match.com wedding she will have). so journey along with her when you're bored at work. after all, it's okay to look (at match.com and other blogs that are not sd4life).
and on that note - i have to get dressed for work! happy friday to all

show me your shamrock
i wish i could say i came up with that line -but the credit goes to reiten - who began yelling it during the st. paddy's day parade in south boston (southie).
i wanted an epic wknd - and boy did i get one. love it. LOVE IT. in boston, which i read has the second biggest st. patrick's day parade in the country (after nyc), has their parade on sunday, which meant that we rocked out on sat night and then got up and did it again on sunday. i will try to do justice to the events of the wknd.
took the train up on sat - only just made it - was at that stage of hungoverness where nothing sort of makes sense. i have no idea what i ultimately packed - i'm just going to hope that somewhere within there are business clothes. on the train sat across from a harvard '04 who worked at amex before quitting the day before to go to harvard b school in the fall. next to him was a d alum - class of '51, his daughter had been a '79. i know. everywhere i go - the d alums.
i arrive in boston - head out to cambridge where christine lives. we go to meet some people in a bar - run into some more people know from the cape - talk them into coming back to this kid's apt - where we stay all night. i actually had some green beer, corned beef and cabbage (surprisingly good!), flaming dr. pepper shots (this is a total self call, but i guess this blog is a self-call so i will tell it) someone sets up the dr. pepper shot for me and lights the 151. as i aggressively drop the thing in and chug i hear some guy in the background say to his gf, "see! that's what i want you to be like." i kid you not.
after 6 hours of drinking we were pretty much game over. i fell walking home - apparently i was like, "look out guys - it's slippery" and then wiped out. however, since i did not hit my head - i was fine.
sun morning we got up and headed to southie. southie is the irish, slightly sketch at times, area of boston - i have no idea where it is in relation to anything else in boston- i found it amusing that i was trying to coordinate all these people mtging up without any idea of where we were going or actually were. the massive parade went right by this apt we were at. the connections between guests at this party were scary - i walked in with ceppos's friend from high school who worked with one of the people who lived at the apt, and recognized someone from the cape - we used to play basketball together back in the day.
this party was pretty fabulous - more and more people just kept coming and the beer kept flowing. played a lot of flip cup, did a lot of chugging, lots of cheering and trumpet blowing as the parade went by. i discovered that i do have my gym membership until october, thanks to ceppos who was like - call them and find out the scoop. so i whipped out the phone and dialed.
i hooked up with this pretty legit kid - an '03 from bc - he had like 5 wedding invitations on his wall and told me i could be his date. i said i'd come along for the one on martha's vineyard. the fun was marred by the discovery that someone had stolen ceppos and her friends wallett. we managed to construct that it happened around 5:45. really sucky thing to have happen - apologies go out to both of them.
sadly, did not see diana at all, but i did see huyett and reiten - wonderful to see them and heavily peer pressuring them to move to nyc. how fabu would that be. planning a ragey boston wknd v. soon, however, with steger and vinithia and such. wknd wins points all around for the randomness, the steady drinking, the chugging and the laughter. just what i wanted.
hanging out here in christine's apt before i go to my mtgs in boston and then back to nyc tonight for a jam-packed wk. whirl of gaiety.
send more real-life green key experiences, and a medal for ceppos, the ragiest person i know

let's ignore our mothers' well-meant advice
i walk into the bar last night and am barraged by megh and charlo about having not updated this in a long time. hey! the spirit has been willing, but the internet/computer has not, and i can't blog at work - i'm pretty sure they would really not appreciate reading about my exploits, so i don't dare even enter the address into my browser. . . i've also been busy living life instead of blogging about it - so you'll have to forgive me.
this has to be short - i'm sure it will not do justice to the events of the last two weeks - but i'm leaving on a train for boston for st. paddy's day at noon and i have to finish packing. going up to see ceppos, diana, huyett, reiten, christine and then two of my friends from the cape. i'm anticipating a green-key like experience. wearing dirty jeans, layers, hot underwear, and packing lightly for maximum adventure potential.
oh man - where do i start about the last three weeks? first off - apt is fabulous - LOVING it. great location, love the room (i can fit a pong table in it. yes, i measure, and yes, it's that big), although the ability to watch law and order in bed is making me go to bed later and later each night. bad. had a great time celebrating the bday - thanks to all who wished me happy bday and came out to join in the fun. did champagne and ben and jerry's cake with the girls on wed, drinks with the office on friday (trouble), and then more merriment on sat night. perhaps all bday's should be week long celebrations! special thanks to charlo for organizing. 24 feels pretty good. =)
this week was a bit of a whirl wind - working in boston on monday so i have to plan for that - been out drinking a lot - enjoyed the nice weather on wed and thurs (i wore a skirt!) but then fluke weird snow storm kicked in and it was cold and yuck and my face is like ice shard burned. (side note - the people in the apt next door are like obsessive karoke people and right now they are doing 'say goodbye' by madonna. please note the time on this post. this could get old quick).
went out last night with charlo and megh to the bar in the village called 'bar'. apparently it has a name, but all you see above the door is this neon 'bar' sign. i think that's pretty sweet. there were dr. pepper shots, irish car bombs, champagne - i don't know why i am not dead right now except that it was only 12 when we left - blasted. this bar had free nyc condoms - woke up this morning to discover nyc condoms EVERYWHERE. it was like a condom easter egg hunt. i'm bringing them to boston to distribute. really excited about it actually.
last year's st. paddy's day was ridiculous, this year is shaping up to be pretty crazy (wallets were lost, coats were switched, awkwardness occured, heineken tattoos were applied). i think ceppos put it best - st. paddy's is like the green key of the real world. so is jimmy buffett. =)
one of my coworkers has this new phrase. you'll be like - that movie sucked and he'll come back with, "where i'm from we pronounce that 'awesome'". loving it. there's also a strange thing going on with use of the word phenomenal. word of the month i guess.
quick usual suspect update - laurak is heading east this wknd - looking fwd to a rondesvouz with her tres soon. megh is working in phonix and hates it. taylor has been in paris for the last three weeks, but she promises we'll rage when she's back in the city. celeste is going to the gulf coast for spring break and is looking fwd to life in the city this summer. kevin got into bc law - his first east coast choice - i'm hoping it keeps him around for a lot longer. vinithia and i hung out (note - i need a nickname for her) last night - i tried hard to get her to come to beantown but no dice. one of these wknds though - she and i will come up to rage. count it.
there. i think that's all i can do for now. happy everyone? also - karoke is now 'bette davis eyes'. yeah.

lazy sunday
haha - remember that viral video? time to revisit it since it best describes today.
am all moved in to the new apt. and by moved in i mean my belongs are here. i am a long way from being 'moved in'. new place is in chelsea - it seems to be a great blending of the ues and the uws - a little more residential than the ues, with a bit more places to get pizza after 12 . . . i'm excited. spent much of yesterday moving in - cleaning, organizing. this apt was so dirty that we have already gone through 4 sponges and my arm was sore on thursday morning from scrubbing all night (we put on madonna and cleaned. if we had had disney we would have done that. i think this bodes well for the living situation) - which is both pathetic and an indication of how dirty it was.
this place is only 150 dollars more than i was paying on the ues - and exponentially better than that. pretty psyched. special thanks to diane kim for putting me in touch with my new roomates. one is an '06 from bard college, and the other is maybe 2 years older than me and went to the university of georgia. so far - i def like - as evidenced by madonna/cleaning binge. interesting side note - i take on accents pretty easily when i'm talking to someone with an accent. between my new roomates - southern and then the '06 grew up in london and lapses into british accents occasionally - and one of my coworkers has a pretty strong midwestern accent - i think my speech is going to become more of a drawl. =P
went out last night with huyett's friend vinitha - we went to down the hatch and i introduced her to fooseball while drinking pitchers. had a pretty good time but man did my head hurt for most of the day today. i had this strong urge for blueberry pancakes around 11 - so i dragged myself out of bed to go to the grocery store - which turned out to be a v. poor choice. looking at food when you feel like booting is not a good idea. only just was able to make and eat them.
lingley was not able to make it down this wknd due to massive snowstorm in portland - v. bummed about that. working on peer pressuring boxa into coming down while she is in massachusetts this week - it is also her birthday tomorrow (march 5) so wish her a happy bday. she is a day older than me and she never lets me forget it.
when just moved, much like starting a new job, even the simplest thing takes twice as much time. ie - i wanted to do my laundry today. i have no basket or drying rack. i wanted to make the pancakes - had to make them in a huge purple fruit bowl and measure out the mix with a drinking glass - have no mixing bowls or measuring cups. hopefully will have these things sorted out before too long.
